Looks like we all lucked out. Long drives and close calls are much better than the alternative. It's only on days like these that I consider the benifits of having one of the my G's brothers or sisters ( X, FX ) in the driveway.
This morning sounds like a horror show. Checked on the G this morning cuz we heard lots of blowing and limbs cracking. Covered in a sheet of ice and water sheeting off of it.
It's a snow day here so I'll work at home .
Be safe out there guys. GL if you're out in this weather.

We're getting mostly ice pellets here this morning, just bordering on freezing rain.
I normally leave home about 6:00am and get to the office before 6:30, so I beat the stupidest part of the morning traffic.

hey everyone... i survived... made it to work this morning. downed power lines everywhere... trying to get across an intersection with blinking reds and retards driving is a nightmare. took me 2.5 hours to get home yesterday (20 min commute). plus another hour of back breaking snow shoveling... damnit there was a lot of snow on my driveway!

i also thought i was going to lose my bar-b-q last night.... watching tv... start hearing this terrible howl from the fire place... look out side.... and my gas bar-b-q is teetering with the gas line attached to the house. thank g@d with all the snow that's all it managed to do.

definitely going to make it a short work day today.

OMG , I have been getting the shakes. I haven't been able to get on the puter since last night.

My electricity has been off all night and just came on about an hour ago, after I made my lunch on the Coleman .There have been over 35,000 people without power most of the night. Heck I just talked to my wife and she said our Hospital still has no power, they are running on their emergency generators.

I have been busy taking soup and hot water to a few of my elderly neighbors since 8 this morning. After living here for over 30 years I am set up for these things and can heat my house and cook without electricity when the need arises. One neighbor couldn't even get out of their house, the ice built up enough at the base of their door, I had to go there and dig it out, so they could open their door.

This ice storm has taken down dozens and dozens of hydro poles and wires along with tree branches etc. Now it's starting to snow again. What next ?

So nice to be back home after 2 weeks holidays .

That's crazy Wayne. Was it ice build up on the lines that knocked out the power or was it high winds?

That is SO GREAT of you to help your neighbours out like that. Kudos to you for doing those things and I am sure your neighbours were VERY appreciative.

Shane the poles and wires came down because of the very strong winds and ice build-up on the lines. When Karen got called in for an Emergency last night, I went with her cause it was so slippery and windy she could hardly walk from the vehicle, so I escorted her right up to the Emerg door.

As to my neighbors, they are a great bunch of people and have done their share for our community (75-80 years old), and it's the least one can do to help these people out whenever one can.

Wayne, wow. That's a serious storm you have there. Great you're set up so well to cope with it. I'm not surprised.

Nice job with the neighbours. I'll bet they appreciate it and you probably gained a few brownie points.

Seriously, all of you guys would do the same. My town only has a population of 6,000 people and it seems everyone knows each other, it's like family. Just like the Canada section.
