That was the second one I owned for about 18 months in 79/80. The other was a '70 Ford but the identical car except 351 engine and no air. It was white and looked very good. I paid $100 for it but blew the engine (spun bearing) from holding it in neutral, flooring the gas and seeing how long it would last. The dumb things you do when you're young and full of beer. After about 2 minutes it blew. I still drove it short trips for another 3-4 months in the cold winter until it got hot and then started to knock. I sold it for $15 for parts.

The one in the pic I had for about 3 months in 1980 and paid $150 for. I bought it to replace the spun bearing car to move my stuff to Halifax. I never had it on the highway before leaving for my 2200 mile trip. I stripped everything out of it from the front seat back- rear seats or rear side panels etc. It was a great running car but rusted out in those rear body panels. I sold it for $125 soon after getting here. The funniest part of the story is the guy I sold it to used it as a hay truck to feed some cows located in a field close to where my folks. I wish I had a camera when I saw that wagon with hay stuffed inside of it and a guy with a pitch fork shovelling it out.

Both those car I used as a daily driver when I didn't want to drive the Torino or my motorcycle. I have an interesting pic of my motorcycle at the scrap yard if you want.

Wish I had a pic at work (yes, it's only 5:22 here) of my 77 Chev Stepside. Retina-searing orange, 60-series on Turbo-Vectors, all the good stuff from the, uh, 70's. No gun-rack, though (I knew you'd ask, Cowboy)

After many beaters.... this was my first *brand new* car

My best friends dad owned a '70 or '71 360 Matador wagon and a '75 Gremlin 304. Did yours have those dreaded vacuum operated wipers?

 

Here's my first *new* car in the driveway of my ^*first* house! 1984 Honda Prelude. It was about 3-4 years old in this photo.

 

My favorite car ever, seriously.. was a 1980 Honda Civic DX hatch, because I learned to drive in it, and it was my first car (bought it from my dad). I finally sold it in 1998 with 451k km on it; it went from my dad to me, to both my sisters, then sold.. I wish I had a pic of it, but here is a representation (same colour too!)

 

Here's another from day's gone by. My dads 1973 Firebird; he sold it to buy his first house when I was 6. I actually remember watching him work on it in our garage. I'd *kill* to go back in time and tell him to keep it.

This was my first car back in the day, a Dodge Omni 024..think it was the early eighties. Although mine was red; it was automatic, the engine had a whole 80 bhp from a 2.2 four banger (Volkswagon), had huge 13 inch rims...and louvres on the rear hatch window.

Hey Kevin, great posts. A friend and now ex bother in law had that same year civic. His was a little more brown than that IIRC.

 

Lets' go Toyota. Another one of my faves. '78 Corolla 4 speed. Can't recall the specs but something like 75 hp.

It wasn't very fast but it was bullet proof.
