Got the undercoating for my sedan (2 years ago) to keep the cabin quieter. I've noticed that the coating has melted in places (particularly around piping). Is this normal or is the undercoating supposed to last the lifespan of the car? Need to know if I should take it back to the dealership and complain or not.

When you say piping do you mean the exhaust pipes? If so that is meant to melt as it was just overspray in the first place. The exhaust should not be undercoated.
As far as the life of the undercoating you will have to check with the company you used. Some need annual reapplication or touch ups.

 

I never do undercoating, is actually is worst the not having it.

 

 

I suspect the melting of the undercoating around all pipes is normal. I should have mentioned in the original post that there is melting throughout. At times, particularly in the summer after a long drive, I can actually see some of the coating bubbling and occasionally dripping. Not a big deal I guess, but was just wondering if this is common. While I know undercoating adds weight, it really did help keep the noise level down, something that my wife requested.....so really had no choice in the matter
