Clutch or Transmission Problem

Just met a fellow G35 driver on my GF's street. The guy just bought an 03 6MT 4 days ago and now he cant get the car to move. He can start the car, but when he puts the car in first he has to rev to like 5K before the car will start to move. The strange thing is when he puts the car in gear and lets go of the clutch the car doesnt stall. Any idea what the problem is?

It's almost definitely the clutch. Is the clutch pedal returning all the way out? In some cases bleeding the clutch line can improve this. It sound like his problem is more serious but best of luck.

^That makes sense with the first part of statement but I can't see how that relates to car idling in gear and clutch out without stalling.

Agreed. Sounds like the clutch surface is finished.
