Oldbread, It's normal for the tranny to avoid 5th gear when cold. It helps with warmup.
I use my Coupe in the winter (mostly only when it's clear and the roads are dry) altho I don't like to. It's my only ride.

Yes, I routinely get stuck on my street trying to get up my driveway. 3 times last week. I think my clutch is toast from trying to rock the car out so many times.. you'd think I'd learn :P
I find the tranny very tough to shift when the temp gauge is still creeping up (i.e. before it gets to it's normal 1/2 position). And just after starting I pretty much have to force it into first.
I think the stability is a little too obtrusive.. I'm tempted to drive with it off sometimes but it has saved me from a potentially bad accident once already..
