Donating a PC to a family, school, or any other organization is a great idea.
However, make sure you fully clear (delete) out your hard drive of any personal information or any other important data. It may be wise to do a complete re-install of your operating system and all other original applications (I am assuming the system originally came with an OS (i.e. Windows) and some applications). When donating the system, don't forget to include any manuals, CDs and certificates which originally came with the PC. Hardware is just hardware without the software.
