You're right, but Infiniti's are pretty easy to compare as the packages are basically the same - Premium, Nav, Tech, Sport etc. I priced a fairly loaded G35 Sport 6MT on both websites and the difference was considerable. $38,865 US vs $51,370 CAN. And that's without the tech package as Infiniti Canada doesn't let you add that to a 6MT. Now, there is a 6.1% duty on the non-US built car, so add another $2300 to the US price. Still a pretty large gap of $10,000 (make that $11,000 if I could have added the tech package) and worthwhile to do the import IMO.

Oh, and that was an '07 on the Canadian site and an '08 on the American one. If Infiniti Canada raises the price for '08, the gap widens.

'08 pricing is already up on the infiniti canada website. but i agree with u. your basically looking at a $10k difference (minimum) in the luxury car segment. have a look at my bmw quotes. it's basically the same, and that's after a 4% discount from the local bmw dealer.

sad part is.. i don't think many manufacturers will follow porsche in lowering prices. they're still selling cars very well here so why would they?

then again... even after the new msrp's from porsche.. they're still about $10k more!

It would only happen if they feared legal repercussions regarding free trade etc..

I have sent an e-mail to Bill Dodge Auto Group (maine,USA) asking if they are willing to sell directly to canadian customers. Here is the answer:

Dear Vincent,

Thank you for your recent inquiry on the Infiniti G35. Unfortunately, we are unable to sell new vehicles outside of the United States due to dealer agreements with the franchises. I apologize for this inconvenience. Would you be interested in a pre-owned Infiniti G35?
We appreciate you considering the Bill Dodge Auto Group.

Sincerely,

Samantha Blanchard
Internet Manager

So I guess all american dealers will follow this "dealer agreements"...

There are rumours that certain dealers are working under the table though.

Some manufacturers have been doing that for a while. Toyota and BMW among others. This is the first I have heard of Infiniti doing it. I was in a dealership in Washington State a couple of weeks ago and they were very willing to sell to me and knew all about the procedures for doing it. I hope this dealership that you talked to is an anomaly and that Infiniti are not going down that path.

I was closing a deal with a Seattle based Infiniti dealership when I visited Hyatt, the Calgary Infiniti dealership. They are playing hardball with Canadians that purchase vehicles from outside Canada. Basically they are telling me that I cannot get regular scheduled warranty work or needed warranty repair work performed at their location. The way they stated it is that they will not book appointments, I can drop my car off for service in the morning, but if it doesn’t get done that day too bad. Hyatt’s current back log of service work extends 2 weeks. So in effect they are stating that regular scheduled warranty work will not be performed. Hyatt also stated that all recall work or other warranty work must be handled in the US.

Has anyone heard of this? What can be done to get service in Calgary?

That's not encouraging. So if I understand correctly no warranty service will be performed by them and must be done in the states. Regular service will be performed on a when we can get to it basis. The strength of the Alberta economy obviously makes that worse with your 2 week backlog. Where I live an appointment can normally be had in 2-3 days.

give infiniti customer service a call:

Infiniti Canada
1-800-387-0122

tell them your interested in buying a new car in the united states and bringing it back to canada. tell them your understanding is that the warranty is honoured in full here as per the apa:

http://www.apa.ca/template.asp?DocID=253

but that your local dealer is telling u otherwise. they'll set everything straight with u. your local dealer sounds like a . i am constantly fighting with my local stealerships to get anything fixed on my car. probably the sole reason why i'll never buy another infiniti.

Good advice! Hyatt are a bunch of from everything I've heard and a couple of dealings I've had with them. I will never buy anything from them. And RBull is right about the Alberta economy, there's money in this town so people will pay their high prices and put up with their BS, apparently.

How about using the Nissan Dealerships? I was told they can do warranty work on Infiniti. If you can't go to Hyatt... go down the road to Brasso Nissan.

Nissan dealerships can service your Infiniti, but they are not authorized to do any warranty work.
