Daytime running light "kit" is a $15 Bosh relay. That if you dont know any better they will sell you a $70 kit.

Another thought ... with the pricing for a 2008 G37 being $14400 (almost 30%) cheaper in the USA. What would stop me from getting my cousin to buy it in Chicago, then re-sell it to me as a used car. I understand I would have to pay local sales taxes and then again in Ontario but that would still be a considerable saving over the $49950 MSRP plus 13% taxes here.

The question would be, what defines a used car?

Yeah... thought about the same thing.
I have a sister in PA.

There are also some States w/o a local tax;
you don't have to buy within State of residence.

That's an awfully complicated solution for a problem that does not exist! Just go across the border and buy one. From what I have been able to see, except for isolated cases Infiniti dealers have no problems selling to Canadians.

One persons experience importing a BMW

FWIW...
Here was my process of importing an E93.
1. Went to RIV.ca and read the instruction on how to import car.
2. Found the used car on ebay, being sold buy a dealer
3. Won auction, contact dealer, requested them run a warranty Inquiry Report to list any recalls, in service date, options...
4. Two outstanding recalls, ask them to take care of recalls and then rerun report and send it to me (this was used for the recall letter that RIV requires)
5. Upon receiving a clean report, I wired the dealer $$
6. I arranged a transport to pick it up (www.transportreviews.com) and ship it to a border city.
7. I send in Bill of Sale, Copy of Title, and an Export Worksheet to USA customs at least 3 days before receipt of car. I get confirmation from US customs that I can export car.
8. Car arrives; I buy Canadian Insurance and go pick up car from US border city. I drive back to border.
9. On the way back to Canada I stop at US customs, I give them Title, they look at title and pull my file, they stamp my title. US customs done (30 Seconds)
10. I drive to Canadian customs, tell them I’m importing car. They ask make, model, price they give me a slip and tell me to go inside.
11. Inside I provide slip, bill of sale, title, and any additional information they may ask for that proves I bought the car (money wire, ebay item....whatever). They go to car and confirm VIN same as Title.
12. They complete Form1, they give you a copy, they fax a copy to RIV.
13. I pay AC tax, Duty, GST (6% on Car, Ac Tax, and Duty), RIV Fee.
14. I drive home; call RIV to see if they received Form1, they say will take 2-3 days, they inform me that I can fax it in also and also gave me phone number to fax in Warranty Inquiry Report. I fax both documents in. (Saved $500 by using Warranty Inquiry Reports rather than get recall letter from BMW Canada)
• I change all the Digital read outs view the radio menu to KM and liters. I turn on DRL via computer stalk. All information is in the manual.
15. I call next day around 12 to confirm that they received document. They say form2 is pending.... They ask what email address to send form2 to. I tell them.
16. I receive form2 (form used for federal inspection) go to Canadian tire and they perform federal inspection, I also ask for provincial inspection (BC requires Provincial Inspection another $131.xx).
17. Car passes inspection; I go to insurance and insure the car.

Done. US spec car on the roads of Vancouver within 48 hours on entry into Canada. Saved 20%
• Next day went into Canadian dealer to get my drivers side seat fixed under warranty.

Friend of mine just bought an 05' 6MT sedan pearl white, 45,000 km from Phoenix for $21900 plus brokerage, duties, taxes etc. etc. plus $1400 shipping and the car will be dropped off at his door next Friday. Otherwise he would have waited for mine to come off lease but my buy-out is nearly $28k and the car will be nearly 80km by next summer.

Similar cars are going for nearly $30k here in Canada. Fortunately, our company has an office in Phoenix, so he had someone there go over to the dealership and drive the car to ensure it's ok and all was good.

On USA BMW the halo rings can be programmed as DRL, which is sufficient to pass.
The standard/metric switch is pretty common on a lot of cars, for most displays.
The thing that wasn't mentioned is the speedo.
Even on a dual display, I was under the impression that metric had to be the dominant graphic
That was obviously not the case here.

This one is hit and miss ... I had one friend who brought in a Mitsu 3000 GT and no one checked the sticker but my buddy with the 05' G coming was told by Alta in Woodbridge that he would need one. No problem, we plan to to just swap out my visors for his inspection anyway.

Interesting stuff. I hadn't read anything about the dominant reading on speedos.

I think on the G there is actually some wiring gimmicking that have to happen to change the display.

You hear so many different things, it's hard to separate truth from rumour.

That's the point I'm most sure of yet.
