Biz Trip to Vancouver starting this Saturday... need some tips

Hey guys,

Grew up in Seattle, went to Vancouver a few times a year, every year while I was a kid so I've seen all the regular touristy stuff. This is my first trip there as more of a grownup (made one trip right after i hit the canadian drinking age ).

I'm looking for some tips on what to do this weekend while some friends are up from Seattle to hang out with me. We'll be staying downtown. Looking for suggestions on good food, good nightlife, etc. I'll be at the Hyatt during the week for a conference and will be open to any suggestions for things to do during the week too.

Thanks!

tons of great restaurants downtown. Cin Cin, Joe Fortes, Gotham, Bogarts, The SandBar, Kobe, even earl's on howe st isn't bad at night. there's many more, just look up in your hotel guide.

i assume your in your 30s, so you'll want to stay away from most of the club scene (especially those on granville st). Yaletown brew pub is ok, and there are several other spots very nearby in yaletown that you'll be able to see from there. on granville st there's The granville room, doulins...you'll be able to assess the bars by the people lined up outside.

to burn off some of the hedonism, try the grouse grind on a nice day mid-week. you can thank me later.

+1 on Gotham (steak and "scenery") and Joe Forte's (seafood and "scenery").

And if you're looking for "adult" entertainment, you can't beat Brandy's.

if you really want Vancouver Nightlife... then all you gotta do on a weekend night is just hit up Granville street, just walk up and down.. there are numerous pubs/bars/lounges and clubs as well. You can club hop, and the streets are so packed with people in for like a 4 block stretch on Granville that you have to get off the sidewalk and walk on the street at times.... this stretch of Granville is the most popular with tourists wanting to see the nightlife... Robson is just Robson, sure there are people walking around, but there's only a handful of pubs there.... Granville IS Van city's nightlife... as for shopping, you can go to Metrotown if you want reasonable prices, and downtown if you want something in between decently priced and expensive. And if you want stuff for your car, like accessories, you gotta go to Richmond, which is like 10 mins away across the bridge.. it's actually where you'll land when you get here, the airport is in Richmond.. that city is full of karaoke bars, asian restaurants, mini malls that sell all kinds of stuff.... you might wanna check out Aberdeen Mall, it just opened up, it's got a lotta cool stuff.. they've got a Ferrari/Maserati store right in the center of it, with a Ferrari and Maserati on for display

jesus. as a tourist i would stay as far away from metrotown as possible. you can find mall stores like the ones in metrotown anywhere.

if you are a big shopper, there's always pacific centre downtown, smaller shops on 4th avenue and broadway, and various street-level stores downtown.

as far as granville nightlife goes, it's typically a gong show on fri/sat. don't get me wrong, there are some decent bars there, but granville is not the first place i would recommend.

and yes, Brandi's is open again. second best would be No. 5 Orange.

Vancouver is one of my favourite cities to head to for business.

Granville street is where you want to be if you want to see young drunk people.

But the most fun I've ever had was in Yaletown.

I'd eat dinner at Shiru Bay: http://www.shiru-bay.com/
Its Japanese, with a little flare from the European cuisine. Waitresses are friendly, and there's a casual and fun atmosphere. I'd fill up on any of their Sakes...

then walk over to a place called Bar None.

I've had so much fun at Bar None its not funny. The women are friendly and look awesome. On the Monday and Tuesday and maybe Wednesdays, they have a wicked house band, playing Funk, Blues, Top 40. The weekend nights it turns into a club.

Good luck!

I went to bar none last month. Bouncers there are meatheads. Seriously, worst bouncers I've ever encountered in BC, WA, CA, OR, and NY combined.
