My first scratch! Arrrggg!
My first scratch! Arrrggg!
I was enjoying a coffee with my friend and had the G35 in full view across the street. A spot behind my car opens up and a Hyundai Tiburon carelessly tries to park. My rear bumper was hit as I clearly saw my car shake from the impact. This not only happened once, but a few times as I started to fume inside.
A woman exited the Hyundai and entered a shoe store next to the cars. I quickly decided to investigate and upon inspection noticed my rear bumber had a deep scratch and a few scuff marks. The other vehicle's license plate was dented from a previous encounter and was bent out acting like a fork. I confronted the woman and showed her the damage and she addmitted to having difficulties with her gears.
She suggested there was no need to involve insurance companies that we could resolve this. I agreed and said I would be happy with $300 and would pay the difference if needed. Obviously, she didn't like the sound of that and made a quick call to someone. She was informed its in her best interest to go through insurance. Well, I said fine and we exchanged info. While doing this she started complaining that people are **** over a little scratch and that it was nothing. I'm suprised I didn't lose it and tried to explain to her that she caused damage to my property. I felt it was not something minor and everyone has different standards. If you had seen her car it was full of dents and numerous scratches, she definetely doesn't know how to park.
I always try to be careful as to where I park and know that [censored] happens. This was totaly her fault she didn't even appoligize and on top of it all felt it was not an issue.
Sorry for the long post, just looking some feedback. Should I go through insurance or just repair it myself. I don't want my insurance premiums affected by this incident, but I want my bumper repaired professionally.
Thanks

Re: My first scratch! Arrrggg!
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First of all, I would have told her to bend over and I would have kicked her in the boutee'!!!!!!!!!!
Second...YES!!!! Go though insurance...HER insurance. She is at fault here and your insurance will not go up at all. I would have had a police report done too...just for the point...what a bit**...man I would have bit** slapped her!!

I agree. File a police report (at the collision reporting center) and then inform the lady (and i use that loosly) that she has the choice to pay for it herself, or have an at fault claim filed against her. Tell her to call her broker...the broker will then inform her that she hould pay for the repair out of her pocket. (As I would any of our clients). Then for her having wasted your time and her ignoance take your car to the most expensive shop you can find and get it repaired there. (teach her a lesson).
If you have any more question, ask your broker , NOT UR INSURANCE COMPANY, or let me know.
Best of luck

If you look up the meaning of broker or care to look at things a little more carefully, you will find that there are brokers in a variety of industries "brokering" many different types of service and products. A broker is not someone who invests your money....he just represents the people that do. For example the broker who sold you your auto insurance.

Here in the US, we typically call them insurance agents. BTW, not all companies use insurance agents, mine doesn’t.
BobbyD, sorry to hear about your scratch. I hope you get her to pay every last cent of the repair cost. I’m amazed at how some people just don’t respect other people’s property. Good luck!

Re: My first scratch! Arrrggg!
Thanks for the info everyone!
I went to the collission reporting center and made a report. I haven't had a chance to call my broker, but will do that Monday morning. So if its not my fault, but I'm making a claim doesn't that effect my premiums? Anyhow, can anyone recommend a good repair shop. I want the bumper removed, painted and then reinstalled. No overspray to worry about and done right.
Thanks

It wont effect ur premiums, unless you've made several not at fault claims, when some companies will put you into a higher risk bracket, because you appear to be more prone to getting hit. I can recomend a bodyshop, namely universal auto on Toryork, ask for Chris...although his shop is small his work is top notch.
Good Luck

Re: My first scratch! Arrrggg!
Oh so u are a US resident? Some of us could have been thinking that you are a Canadian resident inquiring in the Toronto area. Anyhow the Car Insurance Industry and its operations as well how it fucntions is not any different in the US. Of course, there must exist Brokers who act as agents or middlemen between the consumer and various other Insurance Companires that exist. Usually you will consult or find a Private Insurance office which is made up of brokers etc. who work for you and the Insurance Company to find you the "best" policy and coverage through the "best" Insurance provider that best meets your needs etc. and all other shennanigans if u will..Everything seems so watered down in the US!
Re: My first scratch! Arrrggg!
Where in the US would that be? Alabama or Georgia?
As far as I've known I've two insurance BROKERS, one in Toronto and one in Los Angeles!
I hope your small town gets one real soon too cause they save you money.
And also, if you don't really know what the difference is between a broker and an agent, then I would suspect who's intelligence you borrowed to buy a G?
