I searched "GTR".....in the Canada section.....nothing...

Anyways does anyone know how many are coming to Canada ? Is it worth it for me to go to a Nissan dealership and put down a downpayment?

 

The R35 (or 36 lol) "GT-R", not "GTR" is being sold worldwide, so it is probably going to be sold in Canada, so if you want one, I would go put your downpayment down today.

 

My friend, you may be too late already, when to my local dealer (good pals with the infiniti sales manager) and told me that they will be only getting 3 Skyline GT-R in the 1st shipment, and they had pre-sold 6 GT-R already. If you are lucky, they you may still be able to find a dealer whom has not sold it yet. But the problem is that all dealers will want an arm and a leg for the GT-R, since after the 1st batch, the earliest that you will see a 2nd batch arriving in Canada is atleast 1 month.

 

It's just "Nissan GT-R", btw... no "Skyline" in the name for this model.

If you're serious about buying, I would contact every major dealer in Canada and get their story, then start working US dealers as well. You may have to put down a deposit, but make sure it's refundable. Like when I bought my 350Z, the dealers will know they'll sell every GT-R they get, so they should have a problem with a refundable deposit, since they know if you don't buy the next guy in line will.

The Canadian dollar plays in your favour right now, so you may want to focus your efforts on US dealers.

 

^ Correct about the Skyline name. I think you mean "shouldn't" have a problem.

Buying a new US car means the Canadian buyer won't have a warranty.

 

This is a common myth. Some Canadian manufacturers will transfer a new car warranty north of the border.

 

We are discussing a Nissan GT-R. There isn't any myth about not being able to transfer a warranty to a Canadian purchaser.

I just saw a thread on this last night. A waiting list was mentioned which makes me think that it wont be any better getting one from here.

 

nissan doesn't honour the warranty up here...

for american cars that is

Warranty applies with U.S. warranty limits. Four years/60,000 miles bumper to bumper and six years/70,000 miles on the powertrain.

 

You need someone state side to register the car to...
(I have a relative so not a biggie)

But what would you do about the 6 month waiting period?

 

Have the dealer back-date the bill of sale maybe?

Not exactly kosher, but hey... you gotta save some bucks, right?

 

I can't see that working with warranty registration, vehicle registration and various paperwork. Besides the dealer would have nothing to gain and lots to lose with that caper.

I'm with you on the saving money though. That's exactly what Nissan is trying to prevent however.
