Sorry, I'd love to help but I don't get into that part of town very often.

Me too neither. I do like the Japanese Noodle House at about 12th ave and 13 st, but it's just a little hole in the wall and pretty much the outside of your 20-30 minute drive envelope. Their spicy chicken kicks!!

Calgary doesn't have much in terms of Japanese food, and all the good Chinese restaurants are downtown (in Chinatown, duh).

It's been a while for me, but I'd recommend the Silver Dragon in Chinatown.

Calgary has a very large Vietnamese community, and therefore Vietnamese restaurants (many good ones) are much more common, especially in the northeast up near Market Mall.

Depending on the time of day, it will only take you about 10 minutes to get downtown. The north west part of Calgary really sucks for restaurants. All the good chinese is downtown. By Japanese do you mean sushi?

Sushi Hiro has amazing sushi, but it's a tad pricy. There's a sushi restaurant by northland mall that's pretty good, but for the life of me I can't remember the name.

Sushi Boat in Crowfoot isn't awful.
New Dynasty in Crowfoot isn't awful either.
YMMV

sushi boat gets a big fail all around, it's probably the worst sushi I've had in Calgary.
