got my car:)

Hey guys,
I drove my new car to work, drove a manual first time..lol...it wasn't bad...i think i only stalled the car 3-4 times and that was up hill. It's really fun to drive a manual my only regret now is if i had a g35 stick.
I will post pics soon as i see kevin. I had few questions to ask. Since it's a new car, the dealer told me to take the car easy for the first 1000km and not to go over 3500rpm. When i got to work yesterday, my co worker and i went out for lunch and he decided to teach me how to drive a manual the proper way. However he almost came close to the redline few times. I got pissed at him but he kept saying it was good for the engine and this will open up the engine and some other bs.
Should i be worried? I know when we had a maxima in the family, my cousin drove the car hard and after some time he had burning oil issues.

Any tips?

thanks

First off congrats on the new ride....
How about some details & pics

There are two schools of thought on this.
But generally with the manufacturing tolerances on modern engines it's not as big an issue as it used to be.
I think that the "go easy" clause in the manual is really there as a CYA statement for the mfg.

BTW the engine is redlined several times before you got the car.
Engines go through a programmed break in cycle as part of production.

I think the biggest thing is no jack rabbit, WOT, clutch dropping starts.
Be smooooooth in applying full power.
Don't forget you're breaking in the whole power train.

Congrats. As Ian said the engine has been reved up before. FWIW if someone was driving my G and I asked him not to go beyond a certain RPM and they did, they'd be walking from the second time they did it. Shows no respect for you or the car.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Looking forward to seeing both of you in the flesh/metal.

Agreed with the above comments; your co-worker is an idiot and shouldn't be allowed in your car again.

i would think nowadays going easy on the revs is more to break in the clutch/transmission rather than the engine.

Congrats to you new ride! can't wait to see pics!

And your buddy's a douche. It's not even his car he should be respecting your wishes of not revving it.

Thanks everyone for your replies, That makes me feel better about it. I have learned how to drive now without stalling the car but my only concern now is moving from Zero. I try to take my foot off the cluch soon as the car starts to move cuz im nervous about riding the cluch. i will be practicing this long weekend and hopefully i'll get better.
It's sorta scary at the left turn in middle of the major intersection when people behind you are honking..other than that, Its great!

And Collin, I got the V6 because after driving the G for almost 3 years i cannot picture myself in a v4..aha...

I will post pics soo as i seen kevin...

Manual's so easy to drive, what are you guys talking about?

And agreed with others, the break in is for drivetrain only, engine should already be prebroken in, especially with bmw (that's the new car you got right?) Or something else?
