I ownED a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 (170HP/180tq). This was the new generation motor/chassis/quality line for Hyundai that supposedly put them up top. pfffft.
It was the WORST quality brand of car I have ever heard of, and owned. Thank God it got written off and I now drive a G! (I sooo truly mean that)

I 'copy and pasted' a thread I started in the Tiburon forum about problems in my Tiburon, which, for your information, are not unique to mine and are shared by the majority of tiburon owners:
to add- since that thread to the day of write off:
-keyless entry remotes completely shot, both remotes dead and could not be reprogrammed (needed to buy new ones)
-upper rear motor mount broken, needed to replace, motor wobbled
-stabilizer linkage on front passenger side crapped out...replaced
-car stalled out on its own one day, wouldn't restart. jump started it and drove it in "LIMP mode". defective 'Crank Position Sensor". replaced it.
-seized tensioner pulley (for timing belt)
PLEASE DO NOT BUY A HYUNDAI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish that experience upon no one. Their quality, customer service, respect for an individual, and service departments (I tried more dealers) suck.
The cost of repairs made that car (originally $30Grandish) go near $40,000 and luckily most of the expensive repairs were under warranty.
Sticky this to whoever believes Hyundai has potential! I wouldnt buy that piece of $%#& if they gave it to me for $20,000. with repairs, it will amount to the price of a BMW M3 in about 5 years!

I've read numerous articles and reviews over the last couple of years where Hyundai has tied or bested Honda and Toyota in terms of reliability.

i dunno, i hope it's nothing like a sonata, (my most recent experience driving a hyundai), at first it didn't seem that bad, but after about a block, i knew it was the worst car i've ever driven.
no support in the seats, ( i think they were actually convex), a ride that made my friend's beat-up sixty-special feel like a G, lousy steering response, interior was what you'd expect, plain and grey plastic. though the manual mode on the 4speed actually worked better than on the G, (hah!)
not the same car, i know, if they pull off this new coupe, and or it's sedan counterpart, maybe it'll help change their image. but yeah, that engine bay doesn't speak much for the car.
for the price i'd buy a used G any day.

Datsun/Nissan, Toyota, and Honda had this same challenge in the '90s after having built junk econoboxes that fall apart on the road for many decades. Hyundai is leading the charge for the Koreans to overcome this same challenge.
It sounds to good to be true. Alot of you previous owners owned the tiburon models before their company had started to go through their change. This car could use a more aggressive front. The front end looks crappy to me it could use a larger grill or something. They also need to get rid of that hyundai symbol its ugly. Other than that the rest of the car looks pretty solid.
I agree with the image thing and especially with IG3507 and the big H symbol.
Look, things are about perceived quality. Example would you buy an air compressor from Sears? Sure, Craftsman, good stuff, always a trusted name. Would you buy a compressor from K-MART? Probably not but now K-MART owns Sears. Therefore I have no problem buying the Craftsman compressor at K-Mart if it says Craftsman but I'd be damned if I bought one that said K-Mart brand compressor.
It's all about what we think is quality, Honda, Lexus, Infiniti, MB, and so on. Hyundai does not cut it in my mind but that's my hang up.

i know it's not fair to judge a car on it's brand's image. you would be hard pressed to see me driving any american car, but i owned two which were really good and disproved the "domestic car's quality sucks", mind you, there were not exactly representative of what americans build, nor of the ford brand in general.
i'd like to see how many '03 g35s are on the road in 8 years, with 300k kms on them and still going strong, (i'm hoping mine will be there at least).
once i start seeing some million-mile hyundai cabs, then i'll know they can build a reliable car.
