Are we about to get our *** kicked by Hyundai?

<quote> “The 3.8-liter version of Genesis Coupe takes driving to an even higher level, rivaling the capability of premium-performance coupes like the Infiniti G37.” </quote>

So when i read that, i was seriously shocked to see that Hyundai's RWD Genesis Coupe is making into production. On top of that, they are claiming a driving experience near the G37.. i guess know one knows till it's been tested.

I think the styling is odd, and every time i see a Koren-made Hyundai badge, it seems to turn me off. I mean i guess its not THAT ugly like most of their cars are but still.

The interior however is crap, and its obvious.. that is the most dull interior i've ever seen in my life. There is grey, grey, grey, grey and more grey, and just to top it off, alot more grey.

The only thing though is it's price, which is obviously a huge factor in all of this. Hyundai claim that it is the cheapest 300hp rwd coupe in the world. Initial prices were said to start at $19,900 for the 212HP 2.0L I4 and $25,900 for the V6 model. If thats the case, then i guess it accomplishes something, but i'm not so sure about quality.

in the end though, it comes down to personal preference.. but its just so greeyyyyyyyy.

Why do you guys make of this car?

i just saw it at the auto show and fully loaded for low 30's is a great buy. it's still a hyundai-- once you sit inside you'll be reminded very quickly about how fit and finish is important to us

I am sure that is what BMW 3 series owners thought about the G35 when it came out as well; afterall the first gen G35 interior fit and finish was well; clearly lacking; haha. It doesn't have the looks though; which was one of the G35 key points.

I am sure Hyundai will step up their focus and with the price; should have nice leverage on the G35 as the G35 had on the BMW 3 Series. Just like BMW owners would never purchase a "Nissan"; I am sure there are certain Infiniti owners will hold the same mentality toward a Hyundai vehicle; but with the price and introduction of new buyers to the market; it will be interesting to see.

They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery; and I think Hyundai has a pretty good role model. Given that the G37 led to the 335i; I would love to see what this new Hyundai brings us G35 owners!

Well as far as the first gen interior I honestly dont seen nothing bad about it.You gotta remember japanese interior is different style then german cars...think about this...its been in everyones eyes for years that the best looking and style of interiors where german cars...not the cause if you get away from that all haha

As for the beemer owners....just like most people that have money to spend...they stuck up or stick in then same group....... and its a HYUNDAI.... And i seriously dont think this car can compete with the new g's. And if they do..ill give credit when credits due...

G37 front with an altima coupe ish back, it looks alot like an Infiniti/nissan, and this will take some sales away from the altima coupe for sure.

A well done clone for the masses who haven't got the green for the real thing.

I think this is going to do REALLY well for Hyundai. I definitely see some G Coupe in this inside and out, but that's not a bad thing. I've been saying this for awhile now, I think Hyundai has been doing some great things the last couple of years and I believe they are going to be a serious player against the likes of Honda and Toyota.

Maybe it's just me but when I see that big "H" on the grill, I subtract 10K from the price.
OK, I'm biased about emblems. I see the BMW, Benz or the big L from Lexus or Mt Fuji and I think class, style, very nice. I see the big H and even though not cheap, I think cheap. Even though there may be quality, I think inferior to Japan's cars.
Maybe it's just me.

I agree. It's going to be a very good car for someone who doesn't want to pony up $50K for something with the same power; albeit with less cachet.

The "grey" interior looks pretty good to me for a car starting below $20K.

Asad, I think you should re evaluate your statement the G37 led to the the 335i.

when I first saw the car last year and on TV it looked so much better and they said the power plant would be 380HP turbocharged...if that was the case it would be worth it

Hyundai is marketing this as a G37 Coupe at a Mustang price, just like they're marketing the Genesis sedan as a BMW 5-series at a Malibu price.

I believe that Hyundai's brand strategy is NOT a direct attack on the German and Japanese automakers (as the OP implies), but rather it is to steal American car sales by offering import quality/style/features at a domestic price-point.

There's smart guys at Hyundai these days!
