why i hate crappy tire...
why i hate crappy tire...
i just haven't been having too much luck this week.
bought one of the michelin aluminum jack's they sell to change the tires on my car about 2 weeks ago.
last night i finally said it's time to do the deed. loosened one of my wheels... and i jack the car up. i start unscrewing the bolts... and i swear it feels like the car all of a sudden just shifts on me.
i look down at the jack... and it looks totally warped. i start freaking out, quickly tighten the bolts back up a bit and then lower the thing. i pull the jack out from under the car and look to see what happened. the area where the jack pivots has a rod going through it with 2 snap rings, one on each side to keep it in place... well... mine only had 1 snap ring and the whole damn rod had popped out. so the jack was basically being pivoted while only seated to one side.
i take the junky thing back to crappy tire to exchange the damn thing. they have one more of those jacks there. i look at the other box and it looks to have the same crappy packaging as mine... where it's all taped up as though it's been opened before. i rip it open at customer service and i find oil all over the box inside. i ask the woman.. do u suppose u have any boxes that have not been returned as damaged and simply placed back on the shelf??!
geez... i was so infuriated. on top of this... she would only give me store credit for some stupid reason. i ended up bringing the jack i originally bought back home. i'm debating whether to try another store or simply buy a new snap ring and attach it. i'm worried though that something might be bent or warped.
just a word to the wise.. anytime u purchase an item from crappy tire that may potentially put u or other values at risk in case of defect or failure... have a careful look inside the box for any damage or missing parts. i'm just lucky the car didn't fall on me with the wheel off last night.

I would try exchanging it at another store or demand a full refund from the store you originally purchased it at as long as you have your original receipt you should be fine.
From thier own website;

man if **** happend and that jack broke i would sue the crap out of them! ! u could have destroyed your car and potentialy dropped the car on yourself! that **** is dangerous! sorry to hear that..... i have a motomaster jack as well and it makes a snapping sound when im jacking the car up sometimes.... i think its the spring inside or something.... scares me! haha
I was at Costco the other day and they have what looks like a low profile 3 tonne jack on sale. Its a bit more pricey at $70 with the cupon, but looks more robust than your regular cheapie jack at CT.
Never heard of a store name Crappy Tire (pun intented?)... But the name itself is a turn off already~

If you just swap the occasional wheel (snows-summers)
OR
If you regularly jack it up onto stands & do things yourself.
In the 2nd situation you'll be more likely invest more $$ into equipment.

I bought the 3 1/2 ton Michelin jack from crappy tire and it is holding up well. The quality on this thing must be better than the one you bought. Mine feels really solid and must weigh at least 50-60 pounds. It is so heavy it is a little hard to wiggle it into position. I also bought some 2 1/2 tonne jack stands and those are working out well as well. A little big for the G so I might rig up some jack stand adapters.
