Getting hitched?

There are times I need to move bulky but light items short distances (garden center to home, appliance store to home) and I don't want to own a gas-hog truck, so I've been thinking about adding a trailer hitch to the ol' G since it has such a pathetic trunk.

Hitch installation is bolt-on and reversible without excessive cutting on the bumper (only a small rectangular area needs to be trimmed from the bumper fairing and from the under-body tray). The hitch would also be useful for mounting a bike rack. The receiver is class 1&2 (1.5" square).

Crappy Tire has a Lifetime folding trailer on for $999:

You won't get any flaming from me, seems like a practical mod and a pretty clean one to boot.

LOL Anthony, I thought this thread was going to be about you getting married.

The hitch doesn't look bad at all IMO and will prove very useful to you I'm sure.

I had a hitch similar to this one installed into my Civic HB some years ago.....they will need to drill a rather big hole to bolt that sucker securely on

I could never do that to my G

Actually, it bolts to the inner bumper bar using 4 factory bolts plus a large (1/2") bolt and plate to the tow hook for strength. Minor cutting to the underside of the bumper and valence would likely be nearly invisible if the hitch is removed. The pieces cut away could be bagged and tied to the inner bumper and be re-glued if desired.

Hmm..thats a pretty good idea as long as you dont need to cut your bumper excessively

I could never do it and that cut to the bumper looks rough and I can see that the bumper is pushed up a little so it can fit the hitch.

I saw that too. I'd probably slot the mounting holes a bit to ensure it didn't flex the bumper skin on installation.

+1

Sounds like the G with it's pathetic trunk isn't the right choice for your needs. Can't blame you for not wanting a gas guzzling truck that's worse than the G though.

Just had a look at the trailer. That's an interesting set up.

Hmmm, I remember seeing a huge bolt in the tire wheel well....hopefully they seal up the raw metal
