License plate thefts

One of our staff members had a license plate stolen from our office parking lot this morning. In the 1/2 hour between the theft and reporting the theft, the police advised the plate had already been used for a "fill and dash" at the gas station down the block.

This is about the 10th plate stolen from our parking facility in the last couple of years.

What a world.

^wow, that's a new one to me. It's not surprising though. I guess stores are having a bit of a run on locking gas caps though for those not OE.

We'll probably see a lot more of this.....

Pretty soon we'll be more like most areas in the US, where it's pay B4 fill.

In an increasingly cashless society, "pay at the pump" should be no problem. Speaking for myself, I can't remember a time when I bought gasoline with cash. For those without the required credit rating and cannot get credit cards, pre-paid credit "cash cards" would work. I don't envy gas-bar clerks.

"Drive-offs". This is a returning problem every year at every gas station. Obviously now it's worse due to higher prices. A few gas stations have pre-paid pumps (we have only 2 out of 10). Man, the things I have seen. People pump and leave the nozzle on the ground and leave the scene, people come into the store and purchase a candy/pop and leave the store without paying for gas and leave the scene (in order to confuse the attendant), etc. I've had a fun share of times running after people and noting down their license plates. It sucks when it's a stolen plate though. We have called the cops on these people so many times that we have now become really good friends with the majority of officers haha.

Most gas stations except those out of the city center have this now. After 9:00 almost all gas stations require you to pay before you fill up; either in person or at the pump. I don't think it is too much of a hassle; especially when I was in high school a bunch of kids used to do this.

I just had my plate stole off my winter beater. I found out it was stole after I paid the 75$ to renew the plate. Now its a hassle to try and get my money back from the registry.
(this happened yesterday)
