Angry Toronto - Personal Vehicle Tax

not sure if this has been talked about before... but... seriously.. wtf is this bs?

went to renew my plates today... 1 for my car and the other for my bike. lady says that will be $412 for a 2 year renewal on both. at first i thought she made a mistake ... then she tells me about the new personal vehicle tax that was put into place on september 1st.

so basically... your automobile renewal is 74$ for the year and this tax is 60$

motorcycles/mopeds/etc.. are 42$ for the sticker and 30$ for the tax... how lovely.

did i mention ->

i have absolutely no clue what this tax is supposed to accomplish other than generate even more ludicrous revenue for the city to squander away. soooo how many more months does miller still have left?

I notice articles are not very specific on the use of funds collected.

.....glad I'm not in the T-Dot.

No such idiocy here yet, R., but I wouldn't be surprised if started soon....Our wonderful 'crew' is just as wasteful as yours.

^ if you renewed in June, you got in before the tax.
Anyone with Sept renewals are the 1st to get screwed over.

That's a hefty tax.

A lot of cities and municipalities are getting desperate to generate revenue as it seems more costs get offloaded to them provincially and federally.

True, Deane, but our group just spent $50 million! on a new city hall that IMHO we could have lived without.
We probably wouldn't be quite so desperate without having spent that tidy sum.

No doubt there's examples like this in the TO area...

Colin.

That sounds pretty crazy. I can understand why people are upset.

I don't think the op was talking about the extra money is hurting his pocket, he was stating that this extra tax is just another cash grab that the city will probably just waste.

Why would you just join and say if you can afford a G you should have money??? The G is not a relatively expensive car....

Wise people watch where their money goes and comment when it appears bills are excessive.
