Satellite Radio in Canada?
Satellite Radio in Canada?
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has been using any of the two satellite radio's in US up here? Where have you mainly used it? How clear the signal is? Where you instealled the antenna?
I'm thinking of getting Sirius since they have 3 satellites and that gives you a better chance of aiming in line with the signal but anyone has any thoughts on XM?
Also, I want to put the antenna over the rear deck, which would probably limit my reception but I'm going to give it a try and see what happens. Anyone has any experience with this?
I also hear Sirius was teaming up with CBC to start selling sat radios in Canada and they have applied for a permit with federal authorities. Any updates on this?
Thanks a lot

I have been using Sirius for over a year in the G and have absolutly no problems. I mounted the attenna in the rear deck. The reception has been flawless as far north as the 56 degree parallel.

No idea of the reception but inquiring minds would like to know

Never happen as long as the Canadian satellite providers have the federal goverment in their collective campaign pockets.
Nor do I believe the providers will be allowed to broadcast US music content on a continious basis. Damn the CRTC anyways.

Re: Satellite Radio in Canada?
Thanks for the reply,
I was intitally going to choose Sirius over XM but now that I've been digging up some previous posts on this forum It appears that Sirius is in financial trouble? and XM appears to have better signal?
I suppose attributing the better signal to XM would be because of the repeater system in place, which won't matter in Toronto anyways.
One last question, how far past did you use Sirius and was it on East Coast or West Coast? I take it 56 Parallel is way north Toronto since it is only on 43 Parallel?
Thanks

Since your on the East coast I don't see a problem with using XM or Sirius and I have no experience to relate to you in that matter. The reception I'm talking about is on the West coast only. It would be interesting to see what kind of reception your able to get in Toronto. The reason I went with Sirius is that they have satellites in a figure eight rotation around the North America continent, wheras XM only has stationary satellites with a footprint located in USA. For my location above the 49'th parallel, Sirius was a better choice. I don't believe that Sirius has any major fianancial problems at this time, but I could be wrong. Time will tell.

Re: Satellite Radio in Canada?
I am in the GTA and installed Sirius last week with the smaller antenna just resting on the back deck and it works great. Just get the odd one-second dropout when going under large bridges. Love it!
