Would you buy an American vehicle?
Another thing I just thought of is how much of an advantage the big 3 has with respect to other public services:
1- Law enforcement: almost every police force in North America uses a Ford Crown Victoria as their marked cruisers; also a lot of Chevy Impala's are used and most recently Dodge has police Chargers available
2- Taxi companies: most I see are Crown Vic's, Impalas or Chrysler 300's…after all bigger is better right?
3- Car rental companies: a few places have exclusive rights to offer various vehicles from one main manufacturer, I know Budget rents out a lot of Chrysler products and Enterprise (at least a few years ago) was mainly Ford and GM...a lot of Taurses and now the G6 is what you can expect when renting a midsize sedan.
All I can say is that these are a few major segments where the big 3 had/has an advantage over the competition and they still couldn't stay in the black
On a side note, here in Ottawa our Police Department uses a single Honda Civic decked out with sirens and lights to promote anti-street racing in area schools...a sign of things to come? Probably not anytime soon but it makes you wonder…

There are some American cars I can see myself driving within the next 3-10 years:
Chevy Silverado
Chevy Suburban
Chevy Tahoe
Chevy Camaro
Chevy Corvette
Ford F-150
Ford Mustang GT
I think they are making some pretty good cars now. However the mess they are in is a combination of many problems within their organizations (i.e. unions, mismanagement, etc). They definitely need a Chapter 11 to reorganize and try to boot the unions. The problem is timing - it couldn't have come at any worse of a time than now, hence the need for the bailout. At any other time I would say, "let them rot".

Ill just run this thread myself. After posting a few days ago not likely to a Big 3 vehicle. Today I was looking at SUVs for the wifey I found an 06 Denali with 54,000kms for $29,900 and an 07 Escalade 40,000km for $45,000 thats better than an 07 Armada so I think we are going test driving this week. I may no longer have an all Nissan stable

LOL at dicing between Sylvan (Gord) and Mixture (Tito). Gord works in the oilfield, I'm not sure Tito can hang if the conversation turns blue...
The 2007 Escalade for $45,000 sold today
I didnt think it would last long at that price. I might go drive the Denali on Monday or Tuesday Maybe go drive an Armada the same day. I was all about an Armada until seeing the prices of the Generals products.

i rented a G6 GT 4 door version last year. to be honest, it was a really nice car, i liked the exhaust sound, it was comfortable, but would never paid that much to convertible, simply to much.
