Would you buy an American vehicle?

Hi everyone,

Just reading over the news today and saw that the US government approved the $15 billion "relief" to the big 3.

I know the answers on here will be "slightly" biased since we're all driving Japanese vehicles but are any of you currently driving or would consider buying a GM, Ford, or Chrysler product in the future?

All things considered with the state of our economy, our stagnant government etc.

Let’s get some opinions from the consumer!

The only Chrysler product I would ever drive is the Viper. I would never buy a new one though. I have been tempted to pick up an 05 or an 06 because the prices are very low right now. Even though Jeep is under the Chrysler umbrella I wouldn't buy any of those either.

Ford......no. Although I have an 03 F150 FX4 Supercrew I wouldn't buy anything new from them. The new F150's aren't too bad but I'd choose a Titan, Tundra, or Silverado over it right now. Ford's cars are very outdated, especially considering the price. Interior, powertrain, design....everything is lacking compared to the competition. Lincoln is WAY behind their competition and Mercury.....why are they still around?

GM, there are a few I would buy. I really like the GMC Acadia. We are looking for an SUV and this one is up there (behind the FX35 though!). I like what GM has done with the quality and styling of some of their new cars/trucks, specifically the Malibu and Silverado. As said previously, the Silverado is up there with the Tundra and Titan in my new truck list. Of course, I would love to have a C6 vette; Z51, Z06, or ZR1!

EDIT: Ooooops, I'm not Canadian!

i don't think i'd buy another american, at least not new. if they were made in canada i would think about it (had a couple panthers), there was a joke running that they were one of the few "good" american cars, 'cause they were canadian.

i would probably even stay away from the toyotas made in the states.

i might go for a holden.

my problem is that i like rwd sedans, which generally leaves me in the luxury market, which generally prices me out. untill the 300/charger/magnum there weren't any domestic RWD sedans left, 'cept for the cv,marquis and town car.

i've been lusting over the hemi magnum, but i trust neither chryler's nor mercedes' quality.

so yeah, probably won't be an american car in my future any time soon. (even if it weren't for the fact i've still got 2 years to go to pay off my now-worthless G35.)

I have owned a few American Made vehicles. I don't have much bad to say about Ford or Chevy.

I would buy another GMC or Chevy 4x4, I have had good service from them. I purchased a couple new GM cars and they were garbage, they penny-annied me to death.

I have an '07 300 and am just waiting until it breaks down. Right now it is at around 8K versus the 30K on my G (bought them 6 months apart-both new) but as you can see I like the G better. So this winter the 300 will be my hooptie. It is the first american car I have owned and dont think I will do it again. Might trade both of them in for a G37 as the 300 will be paid off in June. I am just glad I got the extended warranty on both because I have heard bad things about the 300's when they get up to about 60K.

Corvette or Cad CTS, maybe. Silverado or Tahoe Hybrid for towing, perhaps. No Fords unless they bring over a nice Euro Mondeo or something like that, and no Chryslers, no way, no how.

^ you bought your brother a 300? nice guy.

if i needed a work truck i'd lease a silverado and beat the hell out of it. i'd buy a Titan or Tundra if i needed a truck for personal use.

if i was to buy for myself i MIGHT consider a Cadillac CTS. there are one or two other GM vehicle that have really stepped it up of late (i forget models though). that's about all i can think of. NO Fords or Lincolns.

I will say the Saturn Aura XR is a nice car (drove one for a week), if you can stomach FWD. The G8 is sorta interesting, too, but I wish they had done a better job of the GTO.
