block heater cord fun
So I was going about my day filling up for gas and the guy at the till asks "hows your day going?" Just as I'm looking out the window at my car. I said "great until I noticed I ripped my block heater cord out of the wall". I was SO tempted to just walk outside and complete the Hector look you see from time to time and just wrap my cord around the mirror and drive away, I was so pissed off. On the bright side, the end of the cord isn't damaged and the block heater cord looks okay. I just hope its still connected to the motor where I can't see it.. I guess I'll find out if it works here when/if it starts tomorrow at -42. Anyone else pull this stunt lately?
I was so sad. On Saturday I was at a party for about 8 hours, left the G unplugged, and went to start it at 2am when it was -36 (-44 with the windchill) and the poor lass made the most awful sounds I ever heard when I started her up.
I was proud of her for starting but I promised I would never be so mean to her again. Block heaters ftw.

I wrap the cord around the driver side mirror to prevent forgetting its plugged in....mostly for my wife. I have had a few "OH $h1t its plugged in still" incidents in past years.
Fishing the block heater cord through the grill?
Speaking of block heater cord issues - I can't seem to find a space on the front grill where it is possible to fish the block heater cord through on my 2005 sedan. It's not the cord that's the issue, but the plug-end. On my 2004 I could slip it through one of the slits on the old style bumper, but on the 2005 the bottom of the bumper has the "mesh". There no holes in the bottom of the front bumper either. It also doesn't seem to fit through the grill. Any suggestions?
Will probably just have to buy a small thin extension cord and run it through the top of the middle part of the grill where the hood release is located. That'll make it easy to then plug my longer cord to the power source.

Joel, When I had my 05 Sedan, I could force the plug through that mesh. The mesh is plastic and somewhat flexible. It is tight but doable. I used to pull it through for the winter and push it back for summer.
Sorry to hear about the ripped cord. We're all entitled to brain farts every once in a while.
So do engine fluids, like engine and tranny oil, and ps fluid freeze at -36? If they do, then won't starting the engine without a block heater kill an engine/tranny?
