Cleaning - what products/from where/how much?

Tsup all,

new owner, new member...

I was wondering what you use to clean your G's...

I have a black one, only had it two days now...some things that need cleaning already:

- streaks on the windows
- dust on the car
- brake dust on the rims

What are the products you use? from where? and how much?

Thanks,

Req

Welcome.

I have high maintenance black too. I use the Zaino system (Z5, Z2, Z6). Once you prep your car, then light cleaning is easy with Z6 (like a quick detailer).

- streaks on the windows
I use Zaino Z6

- dust on the car
Again, Zaino Z6

- brake dust on the rims
dish soap and water, then you guessed it, Zaino Z6

I ordered mine from www.carpolish.ca

If you want to make it easier on yourself, WAX your rims also. they probably won't need the full zaino treatment, but some or any kind of wax will help with keeping breakdust off them.

I use Crystal Guard (synthetic polymer sealant) and it works well for my white coupe. I always put some on my rims as well. and it makes cleaning them MUCH easier. you will never get any build up.

Thanks, will order em right away...

(on another note, i was reading the 'tips' from the website...pretty hard to get straight instructions from them, in between all the obviously-biased plugs)

"buy canadian and american towels...foreign countries include polyester in theirs, because obviously they dont have cars worth buffing up over there"

haha

you can get Zaino from The Barber Shop at Square One in Mississauga. And yes, it is a barber shop that sells car stuff. I don't get it either.

Good call PC. I've bought stuff at the barber shop too, as well as making the road trip to Guelph. Makes sense to me. Get a haircut...buy car care products...all under one roof...yep, I can see the connection (??? this is where a "confused smiley" would go if I had downloaded some emoticons)

Cheers,
Derek

I've seen these kind of stores...one stop shops...they'll give you a haircut, file your taxes, do you laundry, wax your car and give you a handjob on the way out...

(all usually done by the same GUY...haha)

[anyone recommend buying the whole 127$ Zaino KIT?]

Kit is a good way to go- only thing you may not be compelled to use is Z5, for a brand new vehicle. Recommend buying it anyway- you can use it on other cars or on your G later. Best tip I've seen is using a plastic dental syringe to dispense the Zaino. I got mine free from the phamacist. Takes about an ounce for a coat.

Tip: Apply Zaino Thinly

Derek, you can apply more thinly than one ounce per coat. As you know, multiple layers adds to shine and protection, but applying thickly just wastes product. You should easily be able to get 3 coats from one ounce. My record is six coats (three each on two cars) from one ounce.

I find a high quality foam applicator wastes less product than the standard Zaino applicator. Put on applicator, and dab it around the section you're working on. Keep applicator moist spray of Z6 and/or very light spray of water.

Re: Tip: Apply Zaino Thinly

Good suggestion on the Z6 in the app- I've only used water- I'll try the Z6. Thanks.

Cheers,

Re: Tip: Apply Zaino Thinly

Would'nt putting wax on your rims just make the brake dust stick on the rims even more??

Re: Tip: Apply Zaino Thinly

The Z6 is not a wax - more like a quick detailer. I haven't tried Z2 wax on the rims yet but I suspect the brake dust will be easier to wipe off, just like how dirt/dust is easier to wipe off when you have a layer of wax on the car.

I did slap on a lot of wax (Meguires) on my other car rims for the winter to protect it from salt/etc. especially the lip, but by spring time it was truly a pain to clean off. Its as if the wax was baked on or something...

What about for the interior? My '04 G35Coupe has been scotchgarded. Should I be careful with what I clean the seats with? I don't want to end up removing whatever he paid to have put on.

Is your interior leather? Cuz I never heard of spraying scotch guard on leather. I think cloth is only an option in US and in very rare circumstances.
