There's no way I could swallow a much higher cost of ownership unless it was a car that was really special.

Can't speak for the 04-05 S4, but if your brother can afford an 06-08 S4, go for that.

It was fifth gear but it was an RS4. RS4 has tons more power than an E46 and they still ended up saying the M3 was the funner car to drive (even with the power disadvantage).

E46 M3 gets my vote even with our long winters factored in.

Well I think I've convinced him to go for an 07 - 08 G sedan, only thing is he will only buy Manual and checking the Auto Trader there is NOTHING out there in manual. He might have to check in the US if one doesn't come up here.

Leasebusters.com has a couple 07 sedan manuals in Ontario, if he's open to that route.
21,000 and 31,000km
http://www.leasebusters.com/en/details.asp?ID=56101
http://www.leasebusters.com/en/details.asp?ID=65807
Both include winter wheels/tires

Edit: oops, I didn't see Ians post until I posted. He's right. The first link is the IP and it looks very nice.

If he wants to buy, just do a takeover then pay it out.

Well the IP would have been nice but its sold already the other I'll let him know. We checked out the auto show this Sat and my Bro has a new love ....BMW 545 if he can find it in his price range and 6spd, he also liked the G so I think his thoughts are wich ever comes up that he likes first. One thing he's definitly dead against the G coupe......I don't blame him I do see a hell of allot on the roads these days.

I see lots on the road as well. Makes me smile every time.
I like the 545 as well. I don't think he can go wrong with either.
