Should I buy a G35 coupe 04 as first car?

Hello I am going off to college this fall and found a G35 04 for sale on my street for 8000 but he says he's open to less so I was thinking of offering 7500. It would be my first car. Do you think it is a good price for this year and a good first car to hopefully last me a few years in college? The seller has owned it for almost 3 years and it has had 4 or 5 previous owners before that. Clean title and he said he just replaced the sensors and alternator. It sounded good when I drove it a few rattles but nothing major. The only thing me and my family are worried about is the mileage 140,000 miles. DO you think this is a smart buy with that many miles or no? Please let me know what you think? Thanks!

Did you expect us to tell you that a 6 owner, 140k mile, used and abused G would make a good first car?

What they're trying to tell you is it wouldn't be a good idea for an "Off to College Car!" Mileage is to high and maintenance would drain your wallet should the slightest breakdown occur. What you need is a Honda or VW that will give you good gas mileage and inexpensive to maintain...bottom line!

If you are looking for your very first car and will be potentially on a tight budget because of school, ideally you would want a reliable, cheap, easy to maintain vehicle for that purpose. Sadly a high-mileage Infiniti with Multiple owners is not a good choice for that.

Get yourself like a used Toyota Corolla or Camry for around $5k and save yourself the headache (and money). Not to disappoint you or downplay a Infiniti's, but with the specs you mentioned on that G35, you can do better as your first car.

At that age and miles, if you were asking would it be a good second "toy" car, then we'd say yes.

For a first ever car that will be your main mode of transport? No, i'd stay away. It's not that it's a bad car. It's just 11 years old and 140K miles. It's around this time that little things will start to nickel and dime you.

No, pass. It is not smart. You don't buy an old, used, high mileage mid grade "luxury sports car" to be an affordable, reliable vehicle.

Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, VW Golf, or similar. I read an article that the Audi A3 was the #1 college student car, but repair costs on an Audi can be horrendous.

Sorry, but you need cheap and reliable.

Thanks for the helpful info guys! The possibility of expensive repairs is not something I'd want so that's good to know.
