Any shop recommendation?

My front lower control arms need their bushing replaced... they are pretty torned up after 100k. However, I don't want to buy the whole arm if I can have a shop (that have a press?) to install new bushings for me.

Your help is appreciated!

 

You could DIY with a pulley puller. I did it on my MR2. Quite easy.

If you're really uncomfortable, any shop should be able to do it. But if you want trustworthy, then probably Simone or APH.

 

I talked to Vic about this a week or so ago.

The biggest problem is getting the old arms off in one piece.
He was saying the bushings get fused in place & they usually have to destroy the arm getting it off the car.

 

I'm assuming you have the standard compression rod problem? I've already replaced my left and right....... you can contact this guy, he sells it cheaper then the dealership and it's 100% oem and new

Thanks guys for your help... I am not sure whether this is the same as the standard "control arm" issues that most people have.

@Ian, that was exactly what I was afraid of too... that it might not be possible to safely remove the old bushing...

Ahhhh gotcha..

IIRC, I think that's normally referred to as the transverse link.

Sorry, I don't recall anyone posting about it.
But, it sure looks like you should be able to press new bushings in it.

 

I hope Vic would be viewing this and tell me whether he can do it lol....

I am still finding a source where I can get a set of the "transverse links" at a reasonable price.

However, my first option is still to press some polyurethane bushing in since I am pretty sure that the stock rubbery bushing will fail again over time. After I did some more digging, it seems to be a common problem for 03-05 Gs, just that most people won't notice it unless if they are doing an alignment.

I just did my compression rod but it was part #9 on that link. I took it to Vics shop and they knew what it was right away, i just wish I could have got the part for cheaper, the part alone was $315!

Ya that was just for the part, then on top of that there was the labor and then you have to get an alignment.

I would suggest trying to find one elsewhere, Vic gets them directly from the dealer, but I would look up that guy on kijiji or even ask Tony from Riverside.

 

I wont get them for $315 a piece, period... I am trying to source the parts from US, but if I can't find sth at a reasonable price. I would have to find a shop that have a hydrualic press to install new bushings in...

It ain't worth putting new bushings in... there throw away parts.

 

Only thing is stock bushing blows... I can bet you that all first gen Gs with >80k kms would have their stock Transervse link bushing failed. Just that no one will notice them since they dont really squeak, but if you jack your car up, you will see the bushing is totally torn
