Synthetic Oil for Manual Transmission
Synthetic Oil for Manual Transmission
Any one else here has tried synthetic oil in their transmission? I had Jerry from Yorkville Infiniti replace the standard stuff with Motul Synthetic Gear Oil.
What a difference! Observations:
- The car rolls easier
- Shifting is much more smoother
- Transmission is much more quiet
- With 100% synthetic, I would assume much better protection
- Sense smoother power delivery to the wheels.
- WARNING: This upgrade might cause a big grin on your face that won't go away for a few days.
Anyone else?

Ahhhhhhh the ever potent power of SYNTHETIC oils......
For those interested the gear oil is MOTUL GEAR 300, a full synthetic blend. It retails for about $22.95 a litre (1.05 quart) it is SAE 75W90 weight. manual gearbox G35's takes almost 3 litres If you would like to buy this gearbox oil or book an appointment to have it replaced in your car, drop me an email jliu@dfcauto.com

Re: Synthetic Oil for Manual Transmission
I just had it done to my car by Infiniti of Yorkville and I agree with Duhprez on everything with the addition of I feel less vibration on the stick now. Definitely a good mod and should put a smile on your face!!
Thanks Jerry.

Re: Synthetic Oil for Manual Transmission
Jerry,
I have also been thinking about doing this.
However there seem to be conflicting positions on the subject... could you address some of the issues that have been raised in this recent thread:
Thanks, I really appreciate your thoughts/ input and I may see you soon.

Re: Synthetic Oil for Manual Transmission
We're talking two different things here.
Manual vs. 5AT
The 5AT is very specific about what oil to use (Nissan ATF)
The manual box is not the same spec.

Re: Synthetic Oil for Manual Transmission
Right Kyle, Jerry is talking about changing out the manual tranny oil. I don't think Nissan worries too much about that.
But the A/T is a different story. I'm sure Jerry won't recommend messing with that, but let's see what he says.
JEEEEEEERRRRYYYYY...........we got a question...........

Re: Synthetic Oil for Manual Transmission
YES the oil is very specific for the AUTO trans believe it or not we have 3 different grades of tranny oil for the Infiniti line up.
Your G takes this oil 999MP-MYJ11P it is about $10.00 / L.
Also in regards to the replacement of the transmission, although very rare but not unlikely replacement, NISSAN is aware of damage to transmission using the incorrect fluid. Don't be surprised as they have examples of trannys, to where people have replace with D-matic (dexron) ATF fluid..so the damage pattern is traceable. As they all leave the same characteristics on damage. Besides most dealers must get prior auth. from Nissan to replace, and when they replace a trans this sends bells off to Nissan they may send a rep to look at it prior to replacement. Just a FYI.
