Turbo!

well my parts sts rear mount turbo kit parts are starting to arrive
should be done the install for the meet at the end of the month but with no tune because my tuner is going to Z-Days so he wont have time till after he comes back to tune.

Today i got my custom 2.5" y-pipe+ 3"mid-pipe put in. It sounds soooooooooooo badd!!! no g35 should ever change the mid-pipe especially not to something custom. well it only sounds bad between 3000-4200rpm. i say bad cuz i dont like the sound but its really raspy like hurt your ears raspy. it doesnt sound like a g anymore but some ppl might like how it sounds. from idle to 2900rpms it sounds really deep and musclely , then 5000rpms+ sounds awesome!! to bad it sounds so raspy in the middle it ruins it. I have the headers, test pipes, y-pipe, mid-pipe installed waiting for the turbo.

*** ill post some picks of another install so you guys can get an idea how this kit works. ***

with all those mods +pulleys, plenum and upgraded intercooler with no tune hoping around 340whp with tune 400whp putting head gaskets, cams and valve body wen i do the tune. Changing LSD gears and single piece driveshaft later. Engine internals haha next year at best lol...

So you won't have anymore mufflers at the ends with this set up?

nope no muffler at the end of it lol wastegate out the turbo. im thinking about putting a porche muffler tho. they are really small and run along the bumper. if not then ill have just pretty much strait pipes into the turbo. if its to loud im going to put a few resonators lol...

rasp mostly comes from the midpipe and test pipes.. from my experience i recommend to all here get cats instead of test pipes and get something made for the g aftermarket rather then custom because the custom stuff will get you more power sure but it will vibrate more sound really distorted.

im hopping the turbo changes the sound completely if not ill try a resonator then if that doesnt work then im putting back my midpipe.

besides being unique a few benefits:

1. minimized wheel spin in comparison to TT.
2. you can keep headers extra torque.
3. gains of 30whp from mid-pipe/test pipes/y-pipe
4. install only takes about 8hrs so at even super expensive 100$/hr its still only 800$.
5. very cheap maintenance. just have to lift the car up.
6. best sounding turbo system for the G/Z

its a completely different feel from any other turbo system when the sound comes from the back. very MR sounding. i was in a 350z with the kit and i was sold! very sexy sounds and surprisingly no lag!

down side:

1. that one pipe is low to the ground.
2. intake needs cleaning often.
3. impossible to drive in snow.
4. low psi in 1st gear

other then that kit speaks for it self cant wait till it comes hoping at the end of the weekend!

sadly the g is my daily driver, even in the snow. My plans for it involve FI but i think imma stick with a superrcharger. Less maintenance and kinda snow friendly, i guess LOL. Your install looks SIK though, cant wait to see it at the big meet or one of our mini meets. Gotta take me for a ride lol

I had done a fair amount of research before deciding to build my own kit. The STS desighn was simple, and easy to copy. I did find some issues with it though, the fact that the air filter is, where it is, doesn't do too much good. Turbo lag is also significant. Most people have to heat wrap the entire exhaust to help the turbo spool before 4000rpm.

Something to consider I guess. I did end up building my own kit, didn't copy anything out there as I thought every kit had some kind of an issue. I am not saying that my is perfect but so far it has worked flawlessly. I did end up upgrading the exhaust after the turbo to 3" because I didn't like the fact that I had to wait untill 4000 rpm for boost on the stock exhaust. With the new 3" exhaust I get full boost by 3200rpm, just perfect in my oppinion. My intake temperatures are very low as well, hardly any piping under the hood.

So make sure to read up on the kit before you start installing, it may save you some time/money down the road.

I have also read that guys with this kit have the IC piping coated with oil do to lack of drain reservoir on the turbo. I had the same problem, so I built a small catch tank under the turbo. It turns out that this is a problem with every remote mount turbo that uses a scavenge pump to return the oil back to the engine.

This is my setup, the turbo is right behind the transmision, and no, it doesn't hand low:

Also, I see in your post that you are going to use aftermarket pulleys. I remember reading somewhere that boost and pulleys are a bad combination. Maybe look in to that as well.

You can see details on my entire build here:
