Thinking of buying.......

A beater
Yes I was against it because I don't see the point if the G would only get drivin 3 days out of the week in town but things have changed, my Wife may be getting a job out of town and its a full week. I know if it gets drivin on the highway or even back roads the front end will take a beating.
A co-workers girlfriend has a 1994 Acura integra GSR she needs to sell it has 170,000km had suspention, tune up and other work done only thing it needs is a gas tank and soon a brake job, the car is in good shape no rust and interior is good.
Asking price is $3000. as is and I might be able to knock another 2 to 300. off (her original asking price was $4000.)
Ive done some reserch and found it to be a pretty good deal what do you guys think?

I believe in beaters. I drive the G in the winter if the roads are reasonable, but some days the 97 Grand Cherokee hits the road. Yours sounds reasonable for the price. GL

Roy, I don't know how the Integra is in the snow or how far your wife has to drive and in what condititions. That has a lot to do with what car is right for her every day.
That is the most important thing when deciding on a car for her, and I think that should play a key role on yor decision for a car for her.

What if she drives on a road that never gets plowed. That calls for a subaru or a 4x4

what happened to your Vdub, did you get rid of it?

JMO, but don't get something too old for her.
Last thing you want is to have her stranded on the side of the road.
(for many reasons)

I have to clarify it will be me driving the car this winter, my Wife will have the pathfinder to drive, as for where I work its all highway to Waterloo so with the car having new winters I'll be fine.
Ian I sold my VW because at the time I didn't need it but I needed money for school.

My friend is dropping the car off to me this weekend so my mechanic friend could give the car a lookover. Me and my bud were working near where the Integra is sitting today, the car is in allot rougher shape than as described the clear coat is coming off the paint it has rust on both sides of the rear quater pannels and from the qiuck look I had under the car I think it may need some exhaust work. If I can't cut that $3000. price tag in half I won't be interested.

Damn Roy, we just got rid of our 1997 CR-V 199k with a little rust but in great mechanical shape for $2500. And I bet it would've passed safety too.

Awwh MAN that's a shame that would have been perfect, my mother-in-law has one and its great only thing wrong is it lacks power but its great on gas.

Deal didn't go through with the Acura so I'll have to see if I come accross a good deal, I just may wait to see where my Wife will be working before I do something.

If you keep looking on Kijiji and what not you could pull off a decent integra.

I've driven them in the winter and they are pretty good, they don't weigh a lot and they're FWD so they don't do to bad.

$3000 even if it was in pretty good shape is kind of steep in my opinion. I've been looking for a car for my buddy that's going to conestoga in September and it's mainly hondas and acuras. So if you're curious about any cheap cars let me know because I have been researching what I am doing for a beater this winter as well!

There are quite a few QX4s on kijiji for around 4 or 5 grand. Why not expand on the family?

Blaine I have a Pathy remember..... plus I would NEVER buy a QX4 for that price because your getting an older model with the garbage 3.3 litre with high kms and a QX4 is $300. a year more on insurance than a Pathfinder (same truck). I'm looking for something with a 4 cyl and easy to work on.

Why the higher insurance? That's frustrating.

I am looking at probably a pathfinder Xterra for next winter.

Guelph infiniti has a G20 for super cheap. Bryan (one of the sales guys) was showing it to me when I picked up my G. I think it had about 180 kms on it? which may be higher than you're looking for, but it's fwd and a 4 cylinder. The interior was mint though so I am guessing it was maintained. Maybe check that out? Oh it was a 98 or 99 I believe and less than 4 grand for sure.

I'm looking to spend close to the 2 G mark and it won't be at a stealership that's for sure.
