I've got a 2004 6MT coupe and I don't use my A/C at all really. The only time I notice it is when I'm travelling on a humid day (and it rains) then the inside of your car fogs up. I usually flip on my defog thru the top of the dash and it's much cooler.

Anyways, long story short, during that crazed downpour last weekend, my windows were fogging so I flipped it on, to NOTHING... if anything my windows got WORSE. I had NO cooling power at all. I find that very odd, since as I mentioned I don't really use my A/C at all.

Does anyone have ideas as to what might have happened? I mean, does the coolant leak out over time, whether it's used or not? Or is there a blockage of some sort? Or is it some wiring? Or a dead compressor?

I've been running the A/C whenver possible to see if I can 'jolt' it back into action, but I get a mildly (and I DO mean mildly) cooler breeze, than when it first starts, but only slightly so. I could open a window and it would be cooler than that easily.

I'm hoping this is as simple as a coolant recharge thing, but I'm fearful of getting a huge bill for something far worse.

Anybody got a decent place that specializes in just this, that is trustworthy and doesn't charge an arm and a leg by the hour?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

I'd recommend APH, they're very fair, I've gone there to do performance stuff and maintenance things when the G gave me problems, compression rod, window motor, etc..

 

most places can recharge your AC for <100 bucks. if they charge you more than that go to a local sex shop buy the biggest ***** you can find slap it across their face and kiss my *** I'm not paying that

I guess I was looking to figure out if it was jsut a matter of a recharge or whether I had bigger issues instead...

^+1 I've been seeing those 'green' kits too, has anyone had any experience with that? Is it easy to do?

 

What does APH stand for? And where is it located? I can't find anything under just 'APH'...

The DIY kits are good if you just need some time and you have a leak but unless you are going to go full out and buy a leak detection kit and patch the hole yourself take it to a pro. Also if it is a compressor you going to have to et the whole system refilled anyways not just the little that the DIY kits do.
