Is it ok to rev the car right after starting it for a kickass sound?
hey guys,
We have one of the sexiest exhaust notes EVER!! *YEAHH! (like how lil jon says it)
now, taking that into consideration, I got into the habit of revving my engine right after starting my car... (*YEAHH! )
it basically makes the car sound so much better when i start it... (with the sprintbooster <--- *YEAHH!)
without the sprintbooster, this is kinda useless since you will need to press your throttle in much further and longer which will be delayed and blah balh blah.. won't go with the flow. ( * WHATT!! )
the sprintbooster allows me to quickly rev it really high so, as soon as i start the engine, I can rev it to around 3-4k rpm for a sweeet sound.. ( *OKKK! )
MY QUESTION IS, IS THIS OK for our engines? I'm not a mechanic so not too sure if there are some vital steps that the engine needs to do before revving after starting. Is this a practice i should stop or can i continue doing this?
thanks guys
p.s: i don't start the car while holding down the gas pedal... that sounds like its not a good idea so i can only imagine it probably is bad for the engine. I just start the car and rev right away so it sounds like its a 1 step process.

The most engine damage (all-be-it minimal) happens within the first few seconds after you start a cold engine. Generally allowing the internal components to properly lubricate takes a little bit and revving your car immediately can increase that chanse of wear.
My 2 cents...

^ hes right, the engine components needs some time for the metal to heat and expand to optimum operating temp, as well as the oil viscous enough to lubricate... not so bad in the summer, but in the winter its a definite no no...

Whats funny is... when I worked for a certain Japanese auto manufacturer, as soon as the cars came off the line, every car is tested. When the cars leave the bay door they are opened up immediately, no warm up no break in. Some of those cars hit 100mph on the test track right after build.
Apparently the theory is when a car is built if something is to go wrong itll happen withing the first km.
So the break in period after you get a car from a dealer seems pretty much useless in my opinion..
