QUESTION: 2 Degree Timing Advance in Calgary?
I'm also in Calgary and have trouble finding 94 octane, I do find if I fill up with anything other than Husky 94, I do get pinging after this mod. (shell 91, Petro Can 91) I'd love to fill up elsewhere but can't find 94 anywhere else !? I may have my timing retarded back to 16 if 94 is not readily available. I don't want to damage my engine.

I use safeway or co-op 91 most of the time. I have found that since the advance, my car has both more power and smoother delivery of the power at all RPM ranges. I have never driven with anything higher than 91 and mine drives like a dream.
Thanks for the information MyG'n'Me, I have a couple of curious questions if you have time to answer.
I am curious as to why a timing advance would all of a sudden require more than 91 octane gas.
^
Advancing the timing means a longer detonation cycle so to take advantage of this you need 94.
What would happen if one would pump 91 octane with the timing advanced?
^
These are awesome figures if they hold true. Are these figures a guestimate of what you feel as the improvement, or are they based on something else?
^
What my tuners,ZTune, told me. They know their shizzle. Also, the advance bumps up the redline 500rpm.
Is Mohawk okay? In Calgary, only Husky and Mohawk have 94 octane available. Short of these 2 gas stations, I would have to get race gas. I am a big fan of Shell gas, but that's an ethanol based gas, so I am guessing that is bad as well?
Where do you pump your gas if you don't mind me asking?
^
Mohawk also is an ethanol blend. Short of getting braided lines your best bet is adding octane boost to 91. Race gas is 100 octane and about $10 a gallon.
I only fill up at Chevron.
I read that zeadlots has the timing advance and uses 91 with no problems. How many degree's is your advance?

From what my tuner told me anything more than 2 degrees(actually 2.3)you risk serious engine damage. Even the Infiniti dealership won't do more than 2.
Btw,anyone here on niclub.ca? I'm "Dr.Ephil" on there.

Shell V-Power contains no ethanol in Alberta, but it's only 91 octane anyway. A couple years back I sent an email to Shell asking about ethanol in their fuel, an engineer and manager both replied telling me that they only add ethanol to the V-Power where required to by law.
I got my timing advanced by Randy yesterday and wanted to give you guys some feedback. I took Deerfoot right after the modification to get some speed, and at full acceleration, I believe the car pulls and revs harder. I can't tell for sure if it's a placebo effect, or if it made a difference since the HP increase is not overly noticeable. A dyno test will say more, but the performance numbers will be nominal. Although, the car does certainly feel more responsive, and when I put the pedal to the floor, it says "yes sir".
I paid $25 to get the timing advanced, and for what it's worth, I think the modification made my car more peppier and perhaps quicker on its feet (or wheels).
