G35 Sedan owners...
Depends what you mean by 'earlier'...consensus seems to be the best First Gen (03-06) is in fact the 06 X, not because it's newer but because it has the nicer styling/interior as opposed to the 04 year (no X in 03) but also it got bigger brakes. I can't think of any major problems.

I have nav... I give it a 6/10 on functionality and a 10/10 on looking awesome.
It tricks you sometimes though and gets you lost. I wouldn't make it something the car needs, but it's a plus if it has it.

I put a double din in my coupe with built in Garmin gps. It was absolutely amazing, id rate 12/10. Maybe ill recommend that to him. Thanks.
