Extended Warranty
OK, I'll give you some advice. Simple: Do not buy the extended warranty.
1) You should buy insurance for catastrophic events where the outcome would be difficult for you to cover on your own. (e.g. Life insurance, Fire insurance, Liability insurance).
2) You should not buy insurance for everyday events that you can (and should) pay for yourself (e.g. extended warranties on electronics).
To me, extended warranty on cars clearly falls under category (2).
The premiums cover not only expected claims, but also significant administration and marketing expenses, as well as a large profit margin. The fact the dealer is "trying to get you to buy" the extended warranty should tell you something.
In the long run, you will be better off if you just keep the premiums and pay for repairs as they occur. Sure for a few people, extended warranty will end-up paying for itself; but the law of averages says don't buy, and unlike fire insurance or life insurance, you should be able to cover the cost of repairs without significantly changing your life.

I have to agree.....
These are just another profit center for the dealers.
I'd rather not give them any more than I need to.
I have never bought extended and have never needed it. (touch wood)

The only reason I have heard that kind of made sense is if you intend on selling the car.
Folks feel a bit better about buying a used car that has warranty left on it, either original or extended. This came from a guy who has lots of cars and switches them out on a regular basis, all high end (yeah, he's way too rich, lol).

Depending on the warranty and what you get, they can be of value. I have an extended warranty on the sedan - price is reasonable, no deductible, covers all the same as the original warranty, just gives me more time/mileage. It gives my wife piece of mind.

No to extended warranties....no to any special paint sealers the dealer would like you to buy...
I keep my cars for some time and have never had any issues after the warranty was up. I'm knocking on wood too!!!!

i got extended warrenty, based on the guide the dealer showed me, they offer level 1 to level 14 coverage. So this price i payed (3g) supposedly covers level 1-14 so everything in the car.. we will see how this actually works if something does mess up in the car.
i know that in my winter beater which is a 04 mitubishi galant oh yes baller hahah jk.
my EGR valve went out at around 80xxx and the cost is $500 for the part alone.. so i figured comparing mitsubishi and infiniti, the cost for a egr would be 2 or 3 times the amount.
in my opinion is always better to get extended warrenty, your car might run amazing for a few months and then all everything goes to hell

FWIW, just a couple of points....
- figure what that 3g paid would be worth if invested instead
- if it adds to the financing total, that 3g costs even more.

So I bought the 6 year 160K warranty today.
I want to thank everyone for their opinions and help.
The reasons that I went with it were basically that I thought the peace of mind, and the value at resale were worth the investment.
The other factor was that I have the money now, let's say that 5 years from now something worth $1500.00 breaks and the economy or whatever is bad and I don't have the money, now I know that it's covered.
Like I said Peace of Mind as opposed to investment.
Thank you all again for your input.

did you check with the dealer to see if they accept third party warranties? You may be surprised in knowing they may have you pay upfront and then seek reimbursement from the third party extended warranty company. PLUS alot of these third party warranties dont match dealer prices and/ or labor rates. They take forever to reimburse the dealer on repairs. usually 4-6 weeks +. Dealers are under no obligation to match what the third party warranty is requesting as far as part pricing and labor. Dealers price is what is. You may find yourself not being reimbursed the whole amount and having to come up with some money out of pocket.
I always laugh at all these extended warranty commercials. They're junk.

Well, I did purchase a used vehicle awhile back that the original owners had bought the extended warranty, I only had to pay a 'transfer' fee of $200 so I opted for it and it did come in handy when the air conditioning went on it in the extended warranty period. Then again, it was a GM vehicle, lol.
