Even though this is a Canada thread...

Yeah I had the same issue. I bought mine new in December of '07. I cant do anything but keep it because I refuse to have negative equity when I get another car. Then I got into an accident that ripped the exhaust from the engine back so that is also a reason I know I will not get anything for it for trade or sale...

good thing I love the car though.

well i am one of the luckier guys, i bought my 2003 5at at 65k back in 2008 may around 21k plus tax. even its 2003 usually people i told barely believe its that old. (the old driver never winter driven me as well) so even i sell it my loss would be 5-6k, however if i sell this a similar class newer car will cost me min 30k with some mileage on it, thats why since i dont have the money i ll keep my g till it starts giving me headaches and i have more money.i agree with everyone, dollar going down ,g37 did make the resale value go down but again i personally think its one of its best in its class when it comes to resale. look at mitsubishi eclipse, that car is 40k+ brand new, now 2-3 years old goes for 20K , at least a G around 2005-2006 will still go over 20 easy.

besides new engineering and the electronics with newer cars really freak me out, since they made it so complicated with the wiring and all these sensors it made our cars seems more mechanic compared to the new ones with the whole gadget thing.

for now i ll hold on to my G and wait maybe when g37 or the new 3 series resale value becomes affordable. then i might start considering selling mine. ( i have buddies already signed up to get mine since they know i ve been babying my car since day one)

mine is at 89k now. agree, no need to sell and get a civic or anything with lesser quality, i know i ll hate it. i will only sell this if i can afford a newer/better but with my job right now, and economy better save money for other things.
a5 is just an awesome looking car (s5 is nice too but too expensive)

agreed no need to waster ur equity on ur car when economy is still shaky, borrowing rates and mtg rates are starting to incline. i think Gs have at least another 3-4 years to be a toy for 17yr olds like US

planning to drive mine into the ground.... put in dnx8120 last year and i think i'll be happy with it for a while.....

I bought mine used so I didn't take the brunt of the depreciation but to sell it now wouldn't make sense.... worth so little

I'm likely going to keep mine for a few more years now... I wouldn't mind modding it a bit to make it faster but again, thats all money down the drain so whats the point?

I probably could afford to sell my car if I hadn't modded it.

I think I come up on the lucky side of things. I purchased my G more recently, and got a good price on it because the market was down (and the g37 helped to drop the g35 price down as well).

Now... I am a person that appreciates this car, and treats it nicely. It's a beautiful looking car, and has some go as well. I DON'T think I own the road, or that I have the most bad-*** car around. The trouble is, as the car gets less expensive to purchase, I know there are going to be a lot of douche bags ripping around the streets treating their car like crap. I hope I have a year or two before that happens though

The more expensive the car is, the higher the depreciation will be generally speaking. Once the car ages, many will choose a Civic (using it as an example) over a G35 even if the price difference is very small between the two. Factors like fuel efficiency and potential costs of repairs also impact the value.

Hondas and Toyotas retain better value than Nissans (check out the prices of TSX, TL, IS250). I know some will consider this in their buying decision but I won’t.

True, every motor has the potential to, but apparently the single intake design engine in the earlier G's (I think vq35de?) is notorious for it. So, I've been told. This obviously is not the case with everyone, but enough for me to steer clear. This may add to the greater depreciation.

It's really the only thing keeping me from buying an older G / 350Z to play with (am waiting for 370Z to come down a bit).

So when I researched and found out the newer HR motors redid some internals for higher revving, I figured I'd play it safe and bought that. This is coming from a guy who owned a Hyundai Tiburon GT V6, and spent thousands on repairs, warranty bull$hits, arguments with dealer (I can't walk into one Hyundai dealership or they will call the cops), and am just sick of problems.

I also got a Camry, 2002, and there's a reason the resale is so high. I haven't had ONE problem yet, really, not one. Even has original battery, lowered, and is driven hard. My G already seen the dealer twice for tranny problems. Fortunately, I like the car.
