Angry Calgary - Hand washing your G

Alright, how are you guys hand washing your G? Because of the ridiculous "no soap" bylaw in Calgary?

Are you guys just doing it since its only being enforced by compliant? How else are we supposed to wash our G? Plus theres a debate about Automated car washes but lets not go there.

Thoughts or suggestions?

A friend of mine was washing his Audi and a neigbour called him in he said the fire dept showed up and said they had a complaint. He was using some enviro friendly soap, they looked at it and said ok sorry to bother you sir? i am not sure how the bylaw reads but could you wash it with soap if its parked on your lawn, he said the concern seemed to be that the soap was going down the drain?

I get a rougher time from my kids than from bylaw, though I've driveway-washed many times and no complaints from my neighbours. That said, I have taken to washing with Optimum No Rinse which I can do in my garage. I still have to get rid of a bit of dirty water, but it's not so obvious as a soaped-up G in the driveway.

Same here I use ONR as well, I pressure wash the car first so I can get rid of as much dust as possible and than ONR, but from time to time I do use soap but none of my neighbours mind, hell my next door neighbour is always trying to get me to wash his car after I done my cars LOL.

According to City of Calgary website http://content.calgary.ca/CCA/City+H...+Bylaw+FAQ.htm

"Prohibited materials

To protect the quality of storm water entering our rivers and to avoid obstructions, certain materials and contaminants are prohibited from entering the storm drainage system.

For example:

* soil, sediment or other solid matter (including yard waste such as leaves and grass clippings).
* cooking oils and grease
* gasoline, motor oil, transmission fl uid and antifreeze
* solvents and paints
* water from pools and hot tubs
* industrial waste
* soaps or detergents (including biodegradable products)
* pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers
* cement/concrete waste
* sawdust and construction materials
* any substance or combination of substances that emit an odour.

Can I still wash my car in the driveway or street?

The City recommends using a commercial car wash to clean your vehicle. Commercial car washes drain to the City’s wastewater treatment facility where the wastewater is cleaned and treated. If you do wash your car in the driveway or street, you cannot use soap. Use water only and ensure that dirt or oil from your car does not get washed down the storm drain."

Like WTF??

in a few months call up BP. they should have some used containment devices for sale (i hope by then). after washing you car inside said containment, hire a vacuum truck to suck away the waste and deposit into the wastewater system.

fortunately for me our treatment system is different in Vancity! i hand wash almost weekly.

I'm gonna take crap from the guys for this cause they think I am in love with this stuff, but I've had really good results with ONR. You can get it from eShine.ca.
