Satellite Radio in Canada
Satellite Radio in Canada
Hi
What's the deal on satellite radio in Canada?
Can we get it? How?
Is our car pre-wired or not? I have seen articles that state the car is pre-wired but I've seen others that say that everything coming into Canada doesn't have the cable.
So far all I have is a useless button on my dash!
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Re: Satellite Radio in Canada
Yup, 2003.5 up and it's prewired regardless of Canada or US. at least mine a 2004 is.
Your next step and probably the hardest is to choose between Sirius or XM.
I'm also doing research on this matter and here is what I've learnt so far:
1- XM has much stronger signal than Sirius
2- Sirus has better line of sight since its sats are broadcasting on a more vertical view towards Canada
3- XM has a bit less programming than Sirus
4- Sirius has a better chance of ever getting to Canada legally and they already have a Canadian mini-site: http://www.siriusradiocanada.com/
5- From various sites, reviews and personal accounts I've heard they will both work fine in Canada, in some cases even so far up as Yukon.
6- With either one you will need to install the antenna externally if you want clear signal and fast station pulling
7- Without ground repeaters you WILL lose signal in underpasses or areas with multiple tall buildings
8- XM seems to be financial more secure as it has over 1.4 million subscribers versus the Sirius 266000 but Sirius started later and both are expanding
9- Last but not least, Sirius is getting Howard Stern for Jan 1st. 2006!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is there ANY more reason not to love Sirius?
Let me know or PM me maybe we can get our equipment together or do the install together :-) I'm around Bayview Steels area.

Re: Satellite Radio in Canada
I've been using Sirius sat radio for over year now in all my vehicles. It's a great system and rarely fails me. But I've heard that XM works better in Eastern Canada. So it does depend where your located.

Re: Satellite Radio in Canada
Thanks for the info.
For those of you in Canada, did you need a US Address to activate the service?
Are you usung an internal or external antenna? I don't really like the idea of mounting outside as it will ruin the lines of the car, but I guess I can get past that.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Satellite Radio in Canada
I to have been using Sirius [US Address] and like it alot.
Digger - I have the new antenna [Sirmini] which is very small & is mounted inside on the rear deck. No problems with reception.
