winter prep list...any feedback on the following

so this is wht iam planning for prepping my G with for da winter (though it will only c scarce duty during the 4 winter months).

- switching to winter rubber on 17" rims with 225/50-17s all round. (say towards the end of nov)

- Use of a good quality wax and sealant product (mite take to wes in scarborough, a pretty good detailer).

- Thinking of having rust check just spray the undercarriage with their oil based product. (it should help with the salt @ least rite. not a very big fan of having holes drilled into the car)

- i have been putting off having an alignment done for a while, does it make sense to have the alignment done now on my summer setup, or wen i switch to the winter tires.. does it make a diff.?

- Anything else, i need to have change...?
just had my motor oil (amsoil 5w30), diff oil (amsoil 75w90) and tranny fluid (J matic fluid) changed

thanks

Sounds pretty good. Some additions and advice
-I get Rust Check to spray their Coat & Protect on the underside of my FX in the Fall.
-I would leave the alignment until spring, roads can get pretty hacked up during winter and early spring.
-coat all your weather-stripping with a good silicone lubricant.
-get yourself some good winter rubber mats that will contain all the moisture and slop (WeatherTech make good ones)
-keep an emergency winter kit in your trunk

I personally wouldn't bother paint protecting your vehicle with wax for the winter, unless you want to do every 4 weeks or so. Go ahead with a good quality sealant instead. Menzerna Polymer Lock, Blackfire, Poorboys, Chemical Guys, and Zaino all make great sealants.

Go to a local coin op and rinse all of the salt, sand, and crud off of your paint. If you wish to fully wash it, get yourself some ONR, two buckets both with grit guards, and some good quality MF towels.

Completely agree Wayne. I put one in the trunk of the G (along with a blanket) for Anissa just in case something happens. Better be safe than sorry and I just don't like the thought of her and Ava stranded somewhere in the cold without having the proper necessities.

thanks wayne

before I go for the rust check coat & protect, should i be applying some sort silicon material or some thing on the brake lines and the bushings.
I cant recall, but i remember reading some thing abt the rust proofing application tends to causes issues with brake lines and rubber bushings.

i guess i have put off alignment until now, mite as well take it until next spring, mite motivate me to get some new tires.

any suggestions on silicone lubricants...?

Rust Check will not hurt those components at all, they are formulated to be compatible with those things. I have used Rust Check for many years with no issues. Last year my Rust Check Shop charged me $50 to do the Coat and Protect on the undersides of my FX. I will be doing it again in the next month.

The best silicone lubricant I have used is one that is sold at GM Parts counters which is formulated for that purpose.
I have also just used the silicone spray lubricant that you can get at Can-Tire.
