Fresh Paint Job?
Hey, was wondering if anyone has changed the original color of their G coupe? Any professional places you recommend, how much does it cost? how much between a regular base like black vs a color like pear white. Does changing the original paint color affect resale value or insurance/ministry records.... thanks
It certainly won't affect your insurance, however it could hurt your resale. I'm not saying it will but I have certainly heard of it happening. For example, having a white engine bay with a black exterior isn't very appealing to a new buyer and tends to make people suspicious of a few things - I know I would be.
As for shops, I only know a couple in Calgary, sorry man. If you're set on it though, don't cheap out.

Resale will take a drop unless the car is modded to hell and is done properly.
Be very careful who paints it, I've seen a lot of cars get mangled but guys who think they know what they're doing.
If you're serious about a paint job, send me a PM, but if you think a paint job costs $1000 then just close the thread now.

If you want a properly done job; meaning strip the car and do an OEM quality or better paint job (and you don't have a 'hookup'), I'd say a good jumping off point for budget would be 8k. That is a low number, though; definitely a starting point.
To give you an idea, guys with already stripped classics who need a small amount of body work but want good paint (ppg, etc...), properly done and blocked usually pay, in my experience, between 12-16k. More for custom stuff.
If you just want the outside of the car painted (no jambs, no engine bay), with everything masked, you might pay as little as 3-4k, but your re-sale will likely suffer.
As option for people who want to change their paint color but don't have $15k is vinyl. A well done vinyl wrap with flx paint (painted vinyl), may run 4k also, but you don't have issues with overspray, drips, solvent pops, re-sale, etc.. it has a warranty too.

Is this something new Kevin?
I was going to sago for a wrap as others here have suggested.
In my experience, which is admittedly limited, is that unless you invest serious coin you're going to kill the value of the car..
