clear bra
Re: clear bra
I also recommend Mark from Chip Guard. He has a location near Yonge + Steeles, and another location in Barrie.
He does a wrap process, including removing the grill, and wrapping the film around the edges, so that there is no visible edge around the grill and headlights.
His pricing is quite reasonable (lower than that site that's linked), and he does a very good job.
I did find some lower cost options (just under $500 for front bumpers/hood/fenders/side mirror). I'm sure these would also be reasonable options, but they would not do as careful a job in wrapping around the edges. I thought the modestly higher cost was worth it.

Give Ton a call. He works out of a shop in Richmond Hill near Yonge and Major Mack. 416-451-8355. Very reasonable prices depending on how much clear bra coverage you want. You can mention my name and say you're from the G35 Driver's Forum.
Ton does great work and uses only 3M material.

Get Front Bumper Too
Forgot to mention, get the Front Bumper done too. Although some people are quite happy with hood/fenders only, others who didn't do the bumper, wish they did. The generally consensus is that if you're going to do a clear bra, get the front bumpers done too. The hood/fenders is actually relatively easy to install. The front bumper is the trickier.
Re: Get Front Bumper Too
Does anyone know if you can buy this stuff and do it your self? I would like to give it a shot... So if anyone knows of any distributors that would be awesome!

It's worth the extra that you pay to get the job done professionally. I've seen some jobs that reflected exactly what was paid and those that skimped wished they did it right at the get go because they ended up getting the clear bra reinstalled.
A crappy job will make the car look like crap. Paying a professional is well worth the investment. I got my entire front end done: hood, front fenders, front bumper, lights, front lip and outside rear view mirrors. I wasn't sure about spending the cash in the beginning and now after a year and a half, I'm certainly glad I did.

Re: clear bra
Hey there,
It's a great idea! Unfortunately I didn't apply it to my '04 and it already has a couple of scratches on the hood. But I won't make the same mistake with my new '05 :-)
Anyhow, here is a link it might help: http://www.nochip.ca/
They have average pricing info too.
I think the basic package is a pretty good deal and more than sufficient.

Wow, they are pricey!!
Call Mark @ 416-407-5489 (if you are in Toronto) and see what he can do for you. Tell him you are on G35Driver.com. He'll even come to your location to install if necessary.

It's still a G thang!!

Hey you guys. You got me thinking seriously about getting this done to my G. After a lot of searching I found a company that sells and installs them here in Halifax/Dartmouth. They do a fair number of them, as well as tinting. They get the 3M stuff from chip guard who sends the templates here. I was quoted $500 for bumper,fr fenders, hood - installed. I'll likely get the mirrors done too.
Are there any downsides to the clear bra?

You also have to be a bit careful waxing/polishing near the edge of the film, and should never spray a high-pressure car wash wand directly at the edge.
Thanks for the feedback Gordgee. the owner of the business mentioned to me he had some yellowing with his own truck after about 3-4 years. He also said since then ther has been product advances with 3M so this may be less of a problem.
My car has a 5 year permashine on it so that may add some complexity to the application. It has to be "renewed" each year so I'll have to make sure they'e carefully working around the edges as you mentioned. I was very skeptical of the product and did not want to have it applied originally. The dealer offered it to me as a consideration for a mistake they made with my car order. I asked them not to apply the Permashine but they did anyway by mistake. To date I've been happy with the finish however and it has certainly saved me time and effort in maintenance.

Hey guys! How's the weather up there! Just wanted to chime in on paint protection since we've been in the industry for nearly 6 yrs. Just wanna help out some G brothers.
3M is by far the most popular choice due to its marketing and name branding. However, it's not the best in our opinion. We've used 3M in the past along w/ Avery, Clearshield, and Llumar. 3M, Avery, and Clerashield yellows in about 2 yrs. However, 3M upgraded its film one year ago and "does not yellow" over time, but they're still keeping their warranty at 5 yrs.
In the past, about half of our customers came back with fading or yellowing claims and 3M was not as responsive as they should be with such claims. This in turn affected our customers and in many cases we had to shell out film from our own pockets just to keep them happy.........a good 35% of these claims have yet to be paid by 3M to us.
So far, we've used Venture for the past 3 yrs and have not had any warranty claims whatsoever. In our opinion, it is the superior film based on textile strength, clarity, and durability. If you guys could find a Venture dealer in your area, then get it. If not, the other films will do the job as far as protecting your cars from rock chips. Venture comes w/ a lifetime warranty while 3M is only at 5.
Also, as someone already mentioned quality of film is only as good as the installation. Here are some things to look for when getting a clearbra installed:
-stretch marks: long lines that show up on the film that look like it's been overstretched....this is a sign of inexperience on the installer on handling the film.
-dust / dirt trapped under the film......very noticeable on ip
-the length of time for curing or keeping it from getting wet. It really should be about a wk if they took the time to dry the edges. Here in the San Francisco Bay for the past few wks, we've been getting heavy rainfall, but still apply 4-5 clearbras per day and the customer still takes the car out right away. We took the time to dry all of the leading edges so that the water does not create any bubbles.
-alignment of the clearbra kit: if you're really **** (like me), then the clearbra should line up the way it's supposed to on either side.
Hope this gives you guys some sort of guideline when searching for clearbra installation facilities! Happy New Year!

I've been lurking here as a new G35 owner for the past few weeks and reading up on all I can get my eyes on. Of all the little glitches and complaints I've read about the G35, the soft paint is a reality for me. I already have a small rock chip and, whats worse, three scratches in the bumper from a cardboard box, of all things.
I have a few questions regarding "clear bras".
First, if I understand correcly, it is applied like a film or tint product (not sprayed or painted on), right?
If so, does that mean it could be removed later without damamge?
Since I have the aforementioned chips/scratches, is OK to use a touch up kit like you find in AutoZone first? (not sure if that stuff will sweat/bleed)
I've seen kits for the headlights as well, why? (no paint, impact protection? are people cracking lights in their Gs?)
What other worries/concerns should I have?
Know of a good installer/product in SoCal - Riverside/Palm Springs/Redlands area?

Just got the clear bra (in Toronto)
I shopped around and found that Mark at Chip guard really is the best around the Greater Toronto Area. I had it done this morning. Great job and reasonable price. Chip guard does offer a DIY kit for the front bumper, front fender, 1/3 of the hood, the side mirrors and the headlights for $550 CDN plus + $15 shipping + taxes. I am a DIYer and have recently dismantled, cleaned, modified (ported and polished the head; match ported the intake and exhaust manifold) my Mazda Miata this past summer. However, Mark does a great job in much less time than it would of taken me (a first timer with clear bras). Plus, the front bumper is done in one piece and custom cut by Mark himself. Very sharp looking job.
