Rant about 401..

I do a ton of night driving and with the roads being wet most of the time now does anyone else find the new asphalt extremely reflective and hard to see the dotted lines? Maybe its just me but when the rain is coming down and collects on the ground I find it nearly impossible to see the dotted lines and it seems like other drivers around me have the same problem as they drift around quite a bit....

Anyone else notice or experience this?

Yup all the time ... ... Especially in rain .... I guess it also depends on the area as well on 401 some areas are newer asphalt some sections have the older asphalt ...

I don't drive the 401 but yeah, it definitely sucks.
It's even worse now with the days being so short.
It's dark for both morning and evening drives home.

When i'm in Toronto I notice it too, but thought it was due to the lighting more than the road. They seem a lot brighter and more spotted than here. I'm there only once or twice a summer though and our roads are trash, so it actually seems like an improvement still.

agree, the other day i was actually using my long lights to actually see the lines. 401's asphalt has to be re-layered and new lines have to be painted. its not safe!

Its straight up annoying when they spend our tax dollar on all these improvements and it ends up being worse. They need to sink those reflectors in the road, they had them before in certain areas of the 401 but not sure where they disappeared to...

when i first came to Canada, i thought its first the weather conditions how the roads are messy and have huge pot holes, then i remember being in Germany and they get as much snow we get in GTA, their roads are awesome.

its also the crappy road work and cheap material they use, the good quality asphalt can take hell of a damage to be decompose, but its so expensive to use first grade quality asphalts. ( years ago i remember a mile cost like $1m)

Germans invented the asphalt ,we invented patchwork

I hate the 401. When I drove through the night to attend Z-Fest. I went through an hour of construction where the top surface was removed and the G was annoying as hell to drive. Then it started to rain heavily and I couldn't see much. You guys should be happy that the 401 in Ontario have smooth roads while on the Quebec side, it's garbage!! I don't even need to see the signs, I'll know when I reached Ontario.
