Re: Filters & Oil

Hey Tabz Every new car I get (aprox every 3.5 years) I do the first oil change at 2000km after that I follow the manufacturers maint. schedule.

I always feel the first oil change is better done early in case there is any crud in the engine as a result of the manufactering process. Better safe than sorry.

Re: Filters & Oil

Scoop , You can't go wrong with the OEM filter, except they're small. My dealer suggested the 2k2 Max filter -- fits fine and a little bigger.(#15208-9E000)
Here's a list of aftermarket filters (from Sedan Forum) that fit too:OilFilters
I'm using Castrol Syntec (synthetic) in the Coupe, but I notice in the O/M that they recommend regular (petroleum based) oils in the Coupe.... L8r bro..

Re: Filters & Oil

THX GSM - I think I'll go with the OEM filter for the 2002 Max

Tabz - I have never used the synthetic oil but I'm going to give it a try on my next oil change

L8r guys.

Re: Filters & Oil

Be sure the engine is well broken-in before switching to a full synthetic. Mobil One or Red Line Racing are the best when your sure the rings have completly seated and sealed.

Re: Filters & Oil

Usually it takes 6-10K miles for the engine to be considered fully broken in. I was told that Infiniti does not recommend using synthetic oil until you have over 20,000 km on it. Many have switched over after the 2nd or 3rd oil change, but then, some don't believe in break-in at all. Personally, I'm going to Mobil 1 at 16,000- 18,000 km just to be sure.

Re: Filters & Oil

I need some educatin - why no synthetic before 20,000K? All Porsches come with synthetic from day one. What's the difference.

Re: Filters & Oil

Hey, you're from Edmonton? Do you have your G yet?

Anyway, I was told that info by the Ericksen Service advisor who was told by the Nissan Engineers at a seminar. The cars that come from the factory with Mobil 1 like Porsches, etc. have their engines designed, spec'd and built to tolerances that take the syn oils into consideration. Just what I was told by several sources as well.

Re: Filters & Oil

yup, another Edmontonian. just picked up my 6mt, black on black sedan. can't wait until the break-in period is over and I can see what this car can do!

thanks for the info, I was going to switch to syn at 2K but now I guess I'll wait.

Cheers,
