Exclamation Buying a Car out of province

Hey, was looking to get a car out of province, in this case Calgary Alberta, wondering if they have used car packages like other provinces that determine liens on the vehicle previous owners ect, and if there is any tax at your ministry of transportation, also if they give temp license stickers/plates to drive out of province. If any Calgarians with a G can recommend a good shop to have it looked at would be great thanks !

You'll need to pay the HST when you register the car in ON (search online for the actual amount you'll pay). You'll also need it to be safety- and emissions-checked by a shop in ON before it's registered in ON.

As for the rest, I'll leave that to Calgary locals to chime in.

Also, you can ship the car very safely via rail for about $300. PM me if you want to do this and I'll try to find out who did it for me (I shipped a car from AB to ON once, and it worked out very well).

I used Car Proof when I did a swap with a guy in BC last year - can't remember what it cost, but it was pretty comprehensive.

I also used a rail service to move a car from BC to Alberta in 2000 and it was about $350 Vancouver to Calgary back then.

As far as getting it looked at, do you mean a prepurchase inspection? I would use the Infiniti dealership, Hyatt Infiniti is the one in Calgary.

Every province in Canada has Federal sales tax. The minimum (which is what Alberta has) is 5%.

that you pay tax twice in each province....... even though its a private sale, example buying a car in Ontario you give me money for my car i sign over ownership, then you drive to your province a register with the ministry....
