Who's thinking about Winter tires? I am :)

I figure if Sylvan can start a new hockey thread then I can ask a tire question...a winter tire question to be specific.

Tire experts - It seems the Michelin X-Ice Xi2 245/45R18, for the rear tires, is a little hard to come by and to be honest I would rather put the same size of winter tire on all four corners, using my stock wheels.

The question...is it possible and safe to put a Michelin X-Ice Xi2 225/50R18 on the rear Sport wheel which is 8.5" wide? Is is too stretched and dangerous for a winter tire??

Before you ask:
- I am planning on permanently using the stocks for winter and getting others for spring/summer/fall.
- yes, I know there are other winter tires and I am considering them too.

Also, if you have (or know of) a set of 225/50R18 winters FS, that will clear the Infiniti BBK, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks

There isn't going to be much for stretch putting a 225 on an 8.5. Dont condemn yourself to one set of tires or one specific size either.

To answer your question....the recommendation for 225 55 18 is the MAXIMUM rim width should be 8

Plus the 225 55 18 should not replace the 245 45 18 as the total diameter has over an inch difference

Dang, do we realy have to talk snows
......alright, alright

I'm going to need a set for my Foz before the white stuff arives.
Going to pickup a set of wheels too.

Paul, if you look on Tirerack - under tire specs.
It will give you min & max rim width for each tire size.

I asked about 225/50R18 (not 55)
My car has 225/50/18 fronts and 245/45/18 rears. I hope there's not almost an inch difference.

You should start a thread for it
I would be interested in seeing what you can do in a group buy. I'm not particular on Michelin. Hankook, Toyo, Bridgestones, Yokohama, Goodyear...etc.
Let us know what tires you contact is willing to offer in a group buy. Also, can they find 18" steelie that will offset and clear the Infiniti BBK?

Thanks again Ian...I found it. Looks like it will work. The range for the X-Ice 225/50/18 is 6.5-8.5"
This is good news because if you go up to a 245/45/18 then you have to buy Performance Winters and that's not what I would like.

I wish I knew, I let these go for $250 today with the locking lug nuts. 2 of the tires were still good too. https://g35driver.com/forums/wheels-...er-wheels.html

My guy says he can get a set of 17" Wheels (not steelies) with Hankook i-Pikes THAT WILL CLEAR BREMBO. for around $1200.

I can see if we can get maybe 5-10 guys together to get a better deal

Oops sorry about that....225 50 18.. WILL NOT fit on an 8.5" rim and but is a good swap for 245 45 18....1/4 inch difference

Explain to me why it won't fit, I've run a 225 on a 10 with no issue.
