Storage places

I want to store my car away (indoor) for the winter, but my garage is full...unfortunately.

Where does everyone store their car for the winter other than their own garage. I'm planning on storing it in a warehouse/barn type of thing I saw on kijiji, but I'm not sure if it's safe to store in a public place. They quoted me $400 for the winter from nov-april. Reason why I'm debating is because he told me to keep my fire&theft insured, so that left me thinking. I know I'm suppose to do that anyways but since he brought it up and not me just leave me worried.

If you guys have any hook ups or know a good spot let me know, I live in Hamilton so...the closer the better

Found secure indoor storage for $75/month here in Markham if you want, still a few spots available I think.

I have a place in Cambridge if that's closer than markham for you.

I think it's $100/monthly IIRC. My cars have been in there the last two winter.

Thanks for the reply guys, I prefer somewhere closer to me so I can check up on it every so often. I found one about 15mins from my house that charges $60/M or $360 for the winter season, inside storage but not heated.

When you guys put it away there do you use a wheel lock?

I'm planning to invest in one for the winter while its being stored.

IMO it shouldn't be needed if the place is secure enough. Invest in a good car cover instead to keep the dust off it.

If you feel you need to lock the wheel I wouldn't even bother storing my car there. Way too sketchy.

I'm going to check it out sometime this week or next week when I have time to put a deposit so they can reserve me a spot and I'll see if I should get one or not.

$75 is a crazy good price for indoor/heated/secure storage in the GTA. Most places seem to charge ~$240/month+ (some up to $400 ). Even public storage a heated unit is $220/mo. I thought about putting a few in the shop this winter but I don't know how guys do it for under ~$175/mo min.

I've been calling around and the cheapest I found in Halton Hills was $300 for the winter stored in a non-heated barn... unfortunately they filled up last week so I'm still on the hunt.

If anyone knows of a place close to Georgetown/Acton/Milton (Halton Hills) that has storage for ~$80/mo shoot me a PM

I may store some cars in my workshop this winter (Shelburne area, fwiw), if I do I'll post... but it wouldn't be less than $180/mo. it costs ~1000/mo to heat, insure, etc, never mind hydro... so it isn't worth it unless I can get ~8+cars at ~$180/mo.

If anyone is curious why storage is so pricey, just an as example, 1 mill of non car insurance (meaning you have 1 mill of insurance on cars you store/dont own) is ~3800 a year, so over $300/mo. Heating a 4000/sq ft enclosure is ~300/mo minimum. If you run a trickle to each car you're adding ~25/mo. So overhead on available heated/trickled storage for ~10 cars is $825/mo minimum. The only way to do it economically is to store 100+ cars, and in that case you're basically auto vault which is ~$300+ mo min for storage.

Of course you could do it uninsured, unheated... but then you're just asking for trouble.

you can go on craigslist and look around your area for ppl advertising parking spots open for rent. Look for a garage heated parking spot in a good area .. or around you .The most it should cost you is $150-$200 TOPS ...... Thaz what i would do. I park in a building garage so i nvr had to wry about that. But i dont bring my car out during snow only and only till all the snow has melted lol

Check small town newspaper classifieds for the best deals. I came across an ad for here in Georgetown (where I live) and called the next day. I'm renting the spot all winter for $250. Its a large insulated garage meant for tractors approximately 50x25x15 in size with two massive doors and wooden floors. Its in great shape, seems very secure and the are no gaping holes that would allow any critters easy access. The garage fits only 5-6 cars so it'll be semi-private. The best part is that the place is located literally 3 minutes down the road from my home .
