Whoa. Someone needs to get to the bottom of this...

well from my experience with paint.... My cars headlights have been hazed due to the paint booth, they do set a heater on to about 120 degrees to evap all of the humidity out of the booth just to paint. It is quite possible for the headlights to turn colors... i am not saying that it did do that, but I just wanted to confirm that it is possible... i was able to get the shop to buff the headlights.. regardless I just need to buy new housings!

 

Regardless of the reason, the headlights were NOT returned in the condition they were given. The dealer should eat the bill on buffing (only if it removes the issue %100) or replacing them. My car has been in a booth and I didn't have an issue with my lights. People who have had their roof painted should chime in.

 

Roof painted?? I had my whole car repainted... maybe that could be the difference!

 

Then why did the shop I worked at crank the heat in the booth after finish.... 'baked' is a term that could be loosely applied in modern autobody.

 

I've work very closely with my paint shop, they are the best within a 100k and they BAKE every car after being painted.

Hardeners are not they're own catalyst they are either an oxygen or heat catalyst. Majority being the latter. If your shop doesn't have a gravity booth with a built in oven then your paint probably looks like ****.

Ahh true enough, I never use that. I just use the sub sections and roam around.

 

I use 'New Posts' all the time but still look in the right hand column first (forum), especially if I'm gonna comment.

It's frustrating, this may take a while to get roselved. I added a pic to show how the lens is actually cracked. So when I picked up my car the other day, I said to the owner "so you're returning my car back to me with cracked headlights"? His response was "YES" I was floored!

 

Did you sign off for the warranty work completed when you went to pick it up? I'm hoping you didn't. Refuse to take delivery of the car until this is resolved. Once it's back in your hands, you have less room for negotiation. Definitely pursue Infiniti corporate and whatever the BBB equivalent is in Canada.

 

Wow... just wow. I really hope you end up getting a set of new headlamps out of this.

 

I'm sorry but this is so far from the truth. I work at a automotive plant in the paint repair department and we "BAKE" paint every day. I'm not trying to hack you up or anything but its best to get some facts straight before offering advice

To the OP, chances are those MAY be your original headlights. When they repair a vehicle nowadays they have high tech booths that double as spray booths and ovens as well. Chances are they didn't mask/protect your headlights properly and they heat has caused them to oxidize/crack. Its basically just being lazy and taking shortcuts, which seems all too familiar with this particular Infiniti dealer. Hope everything works out for you

 

Even if they are the same headlights, just oxidized for whatever reason, they should polish them up for you, no questions asked. Should have been done before it left the shop.

Completely agree.. That should never leave ANY shop like that! Especially an Infiniti dealer.. They need to pull up their socks.
