IMHO, there are other places to visit in the Caribbean that are way more safer than Mexico is right now. I've been to Mexico a number of times and love the place. But I just wouldn't take my family there right now. Sure, the chances of anything happening is remote.....but I am not going to take the chance........especially when there are many other places to choose from. I'm sure this lady and the two other Canadians killed earlier this month thought it was safe too.

i have tons of people tell me its not as bad as the news is making it out to be. i read about just as much messed up stuff going on in the US everyday. My dad was working down in mexico city and said the police prescense was very large and he didn't feel his safety was at risk except his water butt when he drank the water...

Tell me a few places but not places like Cuba or the Domincan, I won't go there even though it is dirt cheap... I want places where I can snorkel from shore close to a reef so there is lots to see while snorkeling and not a marble palace..

Was just about to ask the same thing. I want to go somewhere end of March and Mexico was destination #1. Now I am thinking otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, I would still love to go to one of the nicer resorts there. I went to some resort in Cancun Tolumne and it was great! The local people/workers just recommended against driving alone.

I just wouldn't go to TJ... and that was a fun, inexpensive and exciting get away.... I haven't been in a long time. That's actually the first time I met MexTep. He was dancing and posing for pictures.

IMHO, virtually any other Caribbean destination is safer. How many Canadian murders or incidents like this have been reported for the rest of the entire Caribbean the last half dozen years? I personally haven't read any. Mexico on the other hand has had many. It's a shame though as I really love Mexico and it's people. Unfortunately, the drug cartel is really spoiling it for the rest of the Country.

Cuba is actually one of the safest countries to visit in the Caribbean. Violent crimes there are extremely low......and even moreso with tourists. Just sayin'

The rate of violent crime in Cuba is very low, and it is even rarer for violent crimes in Cuba to be perpetrated against foreign tourists. Cuban people in general are very friendly and helpful regardless of their economic status, so crimes such as mugging do not really occur very often in Cuba. The only obvious advice one can offer with regards to avoiding violent crime in Cuba is to stay in public places and not go anywhere isolated with people you’ve just met. You are more likely to be the victim of violent crime in Cuba at the hands of another drunken tourist than you are by a Cuban national.

I completely agree, I've been there like 7 times. I'm just saying that's the only other place I can remember of were a violent attack has occurred against a Canadian

It is starting to sound kinda scary, even though it likely isn't dangerous. I also find the circumstances around the latest incident very odd.

My wife has always been reluctant to go there, probably never happen now. Oh well, lots of other nice places to visit.
