Hmm I've read about many of the incidents that have happened in mexico over the past few years and my conclusion has always been the same, there is always the three sides to every story the victoms the accused and the TRUTH. Not saying that "wrong place wrong time" is never a factor but often times bad things don't usually happen unless you're looking for it or provoke a situation.

And for this lady what was she doing by herself in the middle of the night without her husband.

I agree that there is typically three sides to the story........BUT, why is it that we never hear of any Canadian travel related fatalities in other Caribbean countries?

I don't think anything has changed, you've just been noticing things like this. I mean things like this happen everywhere in the world!

Haha, you guys are funny. i would bet that the crime/murder rate is worse any any U.S. metro area. Just because you are hearing about it or the news is reporting it does not mean it is happening any more then anywhere else. I feel safer in Mexico then i did when i went to the bahamas.

Apparently they caught the entire assault of security camera and it was committed by another tourist staying at the hotel....tho no arrests have been made yet

I just find it weird that the same exact same thing happened to another canadian tourist staying at that hotel last yr. He apparently got his skull smashed in with a hammer or baseball bat and was left in a coma after having dinner with his wife

I went to Gran Bahia Principe Akumal a couple years ago. The entire resort is massive and everything is top notch. It was a beautiful place - nobody in my group felt unsafe at all. I would go back to Mexico no questions asked. These sorts of stories are scary to read - but I have to assume that there's usually more to the story then what the Canadian media is feeding us.

With that being said, if someone in Mexico was trying to jack my **** then I wouldn't even put up a fight unless security or friends were nearby. Its not worth the risk nowadays IMO.

The more relevant question is how many Canadian tourists are killed in the US metro areas that you are talking about. A city, let's say Detroit or Miami, may have high crime rates but may not impact tourists at all. Again I ask, why has there been a very high number of Canadian tourists killed in Mexico over the last half dozen years or so and yet you never hear about any Canadians killed in other Caribbean countries? Is it some conspiracy against Mexico or something?

And like I mentioned previously, I love Mexico. Been there a number of times and even got married there.

I read that story, it turns out this is a plot made by gangs. someone hits the tourist out of nowhere, taxi driver offered them to a private clinic, get their visa card and threaten to pay the medicall bills around 50K , its insane!!!

^ really??? Care to tell me the last time a US or Canadian resident bashed a tourist over the head in order to scam them for medical care $$$?

In the US and Canada people get bashed over the head, that is true. But they don't get bashed for F-ed up reasons like that

True. Maybe I could say that crimes happen everywhere and just because you go to Mexico doesn't mean you're more likely to be assaulted. These news articles won't stop me from going on a tropical vacation in Mexico

Naked, in an elevator. That shouldn't buy you a beating, but it is not exactly conducive to your personal safety. Was it a dare? Do people completely lose their minds on vacation? Such a strange story.
