Calgary area - understanding and buying in this market area
New member. I'm looking at buying a G35 RWD coupe for under $15K. So an 03/04/05. Preferably one with reasonable KM's on it and with some sort of an idea on the service history. And I would appreciate any tips on getting a RWD in a market that probably mostly has seen a lot of AWD sales.
I wouldn't mind going thru a dealership I suppose. But I'm not sure about the Infiniti dealership based on the attitude of a sales guy when I did a test drive. Now I'm looking at Calgary Nissan dealerships instead.
And on the user car lot front, any thoughts on which ones are good to deal with? I frequented a few of them when I was considering an Acura TL and got a bit of a sense of which ones might be OK to deal with based on the attitude and personalities of the people, and also based on the conditions of their cars. But would love to know what others have to suggest. I noticed a member was wondering if anyone purchased his G from World of Fine Cars in an earlier thread and there was a comment on pricing.
Also looking at autotrader and kijiji. There are not a lot cars geared towards what I would like. Many, many AWD. And the few older G's look like they might have pretty questionable service history.
I'm willing to look outside Calgary too. Edmonton. Medicine Hat.
Hope you have some tips for me. I'll be hanging around for a while searching this board and a bunch of other G-driver boards.

You won't find an AWD 03/04/05 G35 coupe -- that didn't happen til G37s came along so I'm not sure why you mentioned it. A quick look on Kijiji netted me several cars that fit your criteria.
Personally, I wouldn't bend over for any dealer, but buy one privately and have it inspected by someone you trust.
Anyway, RWD is quite manageable in Calgary winters with a decent set of snows and if this is indeed an AWD market, RWD should be a negotiating point in your favour.

Like Swiv says, by private. Duck the fealer.
Manual or auto?
My advice would be to look for an 05 -- upgraded interior, projector headlights, rev-matching on 5AT (auto), rev-up on 6MT (more hp, upgraded handling, VLSD and NICE forged rims on Sport pkg) though can have problems with oil consumption.
Some 03/04 came with Brembo brakes.
All may have issues with window motors, compression rods and axle click in (mostly) 6MTs.
Obviously older cars will be less money, higher mileage.
Hope this helps.

If you're going to buy from a used dealership - go in there only on your own terms. Do your research before hand and know exactly what you're willing to pay. Be prepared to walk if they don't meet your price. You're there to buy a car that YOU have already researched - don't let them feel like they are the ones feeding you the info. You are paying for the car; not their help/assistance/friendship...etc.
Good luck with your search. It took me nearly 1.5 years to find my Coupe; but the wait was worth it. Good things happen to those who wait.

Thanks for the response and suggestions etc. Over the last few days I've been test driving some G35 AT sedans and reading. I had to decide sedan or coupe. Sedan it is. Then all or rear. I'm going for AWD since I can't really see that I'll be driving hard enough much if ever to appreciate the subjective refinement of RWD. And living in Calgary is a factor. And the wife will be a driver.
Now that that's settled, I need to decide which year(s) and how much I'm willing to spend. I'd love an 07 but they are pretty expensive and the market is limited. If I'm patient, maybe I can get one for $17K with known service history and reasonable km's on it. If not, then I'll look at the 05/06's.
Looks like Kijiji is the best if not the only website to monitor G35's in AB. Autotrader sucks IMO.
